If you're seeing "Windows Boot Manager ", you didn't boot from the CD.

Western Digital's DLGDIAG for DOS CD main screen looks like this:

Hi on my laptop to boot from external CD I have to use the "boot from floppy" option,
there is no option for usb or external CD.
The "floppy option" is assumed to be of a usb type, so booting from this option will boot any usb attached device.

Hope this is some help Ian.

Have you tried booting from a usb stick?

You can get a repair utility on this type of media, worth a try?

    Regards Ian.

Sounds like you simply copied the .ISO file to the CD ... which won't work. You must use a CD burning program such as ISO Recorder (free) to burn a CD from the .ISO image.

    Let's try something different.
    1. Download the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) 5.1.1 and burn it to CD.

    2. Boot the computer with the potentially flaky Western Digital HD in it, from this UBCD.

    3. Use the [Up]|[Down] arrow keys to highlight "HDD" and press [Enter].

    4. Use the [Up]|[Down] arrow keys to highlight "Diagnosis" and press [Enter].

    5. Use the [Up]|[Down] arrow keys to highlight "DLG Diagnostic V5.19 (Western Digital)" and press [Enter].

    6. When prompted, press [Esc] and then [Y] (to get past the licensing mumbo jumbo).

    7. Use the [Up]|[Down] arrow keys to highlight "Select Drive" and press [Enter].

    8. Select the drive you would like test, then press [Esc] to get back to the Menu.

    9. Use the [Up]|[Down] arrow keys to highlight "Quick Test" and press [Enter].

    10. Press [R] to run the test. (It took about 3 minutes to test a 500GB drive here).

    11. When the test is complete, with any luck you should see:

      TEST COMPLETED WITHOUT ERRORS
      ERROR/STATUS CODE: 0000

If you see a different message and code though, write it down so you can tell us.

    12. That's it. You can remove the UBCD and shut down that computer.

Ok, did the download and got to the point where i selected DLG Diagnostic V5.19, hit enter and got this:
EDD: Error 8000 reading sector 490
    Invalid or corrupt kernel image.
    boot:

So i restarted and tried DLG diagnostic V4 and it seemed to be scaning and got to the licence agreement and hit y and got
    Error-No Drives Found

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, it appears your hard drive is failing. :(

You might want to consider getting it backed up before it gives up the ghost.
