I have a Toshiba Satelite. It came with Win 7 Home edition 32 bit preinstalled. It's actually my wifes laptop and my son would also use for homework. It came with a MS Key sticker on the bottom, but it has rubbed off. A few weeks ago, I went to upgrade it to Win Ultimate 7 32 bit. It was a disk my son received, licensed for Student/Faculty use. My son got it from a school he took a college in the Classroom (HS) class. I upgraded it and didn't think to much about it. Now I'm getting a request for the original Key, the one rubbed off. After looking at the disk it said original product key needed, but I didn't notice. I do have the Application/Drive disk, and Recovery Disks that Toshiba instructed to make during setup, they're about two year old. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

I want to make clear I'm not looking for a product key, but any thoughts about how to get my current key. Or simply to guide met to restoring back to my original status. Thank you

You can probably go back with the recovery disc. Download Belarc Advisor and it should give you the original Key Code.

Don't mean to step on AMB1101's thread here but I looked at my Belarc Advisor and found my key but with this footnote:
My unit is Dell with pre-installed Windows XP Home. Does this mean that Dell may have used a different key to install than what would be my "owner's" key?

I used the Belarc and recovered a key thanks MrBill. I believe it's the one for my Win 7 Home edition. Yes, I do have recovery disc, I did make them previously and I can restore back to original settings I believe. To be frank, the only backup I can do is off my disc drive which I did, but just haven't had the time to go back through and try the restore. I'm also looking at doing a system backup with an external drive as soon as I get one next week.
