Periodically MSE catches me unaware, that my computer is not "Protected ". A quick scan returns MSE in the "Protected mode ", any suggestions as to what is causing this error, and if possible a solution.

Mine does the same thing once in a while. I just run the scan and go from there. You are still protected. Check when the scan is scheduled. Change it when you know you will be on the PC

CCleaner deletes the log files from scans made by MSE. To disable this behavior, deselect the MS Antimalware option under Applications -> Windows

If you'll scan at least weekly this won't happen;)

Thank you both for prompt response. Checking CCleaner for responses. I do a twice daily scan and update with MSE - morning and evevening, this I have done for years. Error has happened more often since installing CCleaner.

Twice daily scan is a waste of time in my opinion. Of course, it is your time and your PC.

Mr Bill, as the old saying "better safe than sorry ". I have not the gift where I can predict when tragedy will strike my computer, as you say its my time and my computer safety at stake.
