File VSSVC.exe apparently is missing in my computer Windows 7 system.
How to check if "Visual C ++ 2008 Redistributables for X64" update is installed.
Can these files be found and downloaded, assistance will be most appreciated.

You do appreciate that these two statements are unrelated?

VSSC.exe as defined by the link Mr Bill posted is essentially part of Windows Backup and Windows Restore. If the file is missing it may explain your issues with MS Backup, but how do you know that it is missing?

You can check your installed updates by following this route .....

Control Panel > Windows Update > View Update History.

Thank you for responses. Checked updates only refers from July 2012 to date as it was required to restore computer to Factory Settings. Checked C:\Windows\system32, it showed VSSVC.exe was installed on 20:11:2010. Visual C ++ 2008 was recently installed successfully by Windows Update.
Checking Services shows Vulume Shaddow Copy Started Manual, requires to be set to Started, as it appears to reset to blank automatically. Windows Backup in Services has the same settings. With all these settings properly set?? Windows Backup facility still refuses to function properly.

So VSSVC.EXE is not missing. Date of the file is the same as on my machine.

VCC++ has nothing to do with it.

Volume Shadow Copy should be set to Automatic and should not be running.

Windows Backup should be set to Manual.

What's the setting & status of DCOM Server Process Launcher & RPC Endpoint Mapper?

    Those all look good.

Except that backup shouldn't be listed as "Started" if you aren't running a backup.

Arie, I have checked Backup in the Services and it shows as Started whether Bakup is initialised or not. Can this be the cause of error to Backup failure?

Maybe, maybe not. I don't know why it would show as running.... Is there anything listed in your Event Viewer that could give a clue?

Arie, I am not too familiar with Event Viewer. Checked EV, one point shows caption : "The Windows Backup Service entered the Stopped state ". Is this information of any help? Backup in Services remains as Started.

    FYI ....

I run both Windows Backup and Acronis TIH 2011, both scheduled weekly - on different days and Services shows Windows Backup as Manual & Started outside of either scheduled time.

Apparently for some unknown reason Acronis TIH 2012, will not function for me. Arie, says Backup should not show as "Started ", but in my case it does show as "Started ". Reading other Forums topics, it appears my not having Backup facility is unique!
