PeteC, thanks, just started with Acronis and workings is very limited indeed. I note that Acronis displays all backups are shown on page. Can you please, inform me step by step, on saving current backup to two separate HD,this would be most appreciated. At present Acronis backups by default is "non-stop Backup ".

First of all you must tell me what you are trying to achieve - simple data backup or an image of the hard drive which includes the operating system and any data on the drive?

To put you in the picture I do not use the non-stop backup facility - my computer has 4 hard drives, all partitioned. No data is stored on the C:\ drive - I have a separate drive (partition) for data which backed up automatically using 3rd party software to another physical drive every hour and backed up manually using the same software to an external drive on a weekly basis.

Each week around this time Acronis is scheduled to make an image of the C:\ drive (you cannot copy the OS to another drive as it is in use) which is stored on another physical drive. It is that image which I back up by copy to 2 external hard drives.

PeteC, I wish to make backups to enable me to recover computer when current instal becomes corrupted. Acronis is at present running in the non-stop mode, not my choosing. I too have four external hard drive configured in my setup, G/H/J/K. Acronis is at present using the H EHD in non-stop mode.

I will need to read up on exactly what the non-stop backup does and come back to you - not this evening as I am otherwise occupied.

I have Acronis 2011 which I guess is hopefully similar to 2012.

Eh? Of course you choose what type of backup it is that Acronis makes.

Also note that under Disk Backup Options > Advanced you have the Backup reserve copy which you can use to create a reserve copy of your backup.

Maybe it is an idea to check out the ATIH User Guide?

This maybe of some interest, that after reading many comments in several various Forums relating to "Backup failures" with Windows 7 64Bit, appears hundreds of people are searching for an answer. Even it appears, Microsoft is keeping a very low profile and many people say, any letters sent to Microsoft have failed to be answered. Up till now, I really believed I was the only person experiencing this error.

Arie, I do agree in what you say, however at present I am left with no backup facilities, and reading other Forums on this topic, it appears that hundreds of other computer users are in the same predictiment. Even it appears Microsoft will not comment or try to solve this problem.

Checking the Restore part, I notice two recent dates are shown. Are these in fact backups made by other software titles backup, if correct could I use these references, should I require to restore my computer becoming corrupt?

In your case I would save all my user files, format and do a clean install. That's probably the best chance you got.

Arie, twice I undertook a complete reinstall to HP factory settings, each time after, still unable to carry out a backup of my computer. As is at the moment, no chance of a successful backup, apparently there is no solution, even at Microsoft.

PeteC, I indeed have the Acronis software and made hard copy of their instruction manual. Reasons unknown to me, Acronis installed caused such trouble that I uninstalled, put computer back to factory setting and reinstalled all previous software titles including Acronis. An Acronis new reinstal, repeated references to backups made before the factory settings.
Again uninstalled Acronis from my computer, incidently no reference is made on the Screen or the Acronis reference manual correct procedure to uninstal Acronis. I certainly appear to have got myself into a fine mess over the issue of computer backups, as my good lady says so often now days, my thinking memory is failing.

I would not be at all surprised at that, especially if your external drive on which the Acronis backup is situated was connected when you re-installed Acronis. The information would not have come from the registry as this is wiped clean when the system is returned to factory settings. If the external hard drive was connected during the restore it is just possible that any backups on that were detected, but more likely that Acronis detected them when installed
Programs are uninstalled through Control Panel > Programs & Features in 7. This is common practice with all OS's and would be 'taken as read' by the software publishers and not documented.

If you are keen to follow up on this I suggest the following course of action, ensuring first that all your important data is backed up ....

    1. Delete all Acronis backups from your esternal disk(s)
    2. Unplug all external drives
    3. Restore the computer to the factory state
    4. Install Acronis
5 Plug in your external drive(s)
    6. Set up Acronis non-stop back up - follow the attached jpegs - from Acronis TIH 2011 ...

On the Main Screen - jpeg 1 - click on 'Go to Main Screen'

Click on Nonstop Backup - jpeg 2

On the Nonstop Backup screen select the C:\drive and any other drives in the computer that you want to back up - jpeg 3 - and from the Destination dropdown list select the drive to back up to.

Click on the Start Now button.

That's all there is to it.

    Good luck :)

PeteC, I must thank you sincerely for time taken in detailing steps for Acronis 2012. I did exactly steps as detailed by you. A factory setting was undertaken a few days, procedure taking 8 hours. Acronis 2012 was installed from the Acronis CD which I purchased in case of mishaps. The external drive used for the Acronis backups was checked for any faults showed it was free from any errors or faults. I would be prepared to try installing Acronis again without the need for a factory reset.
