Resolved Internet Settings in registry.

The IE entries mentioned take up very little space at all. It's just text inside a compressed database. If you took all those entries and put them into a Notepad text file, and saved it, and then viewed the file properties, you will see how much hard drive space that text file uses. The registry is a compressed file, thus the space used by those entries is about 20% of the size of that text file. We're talking bytes.

The locations where these names appear, well, they appear there because to prevent those **** sites from being able to harm or infect your computer. They are blacklisted sites.

Security software such as Spyware Blaster, Internet Security suites like Norton and other similar software will put those names there. It's part of how they protect your computer.

If you don't want those names there at all, then you may be able to disable that feature in your security software.

If you have a real concern about those names being there, or having been there, then I have news for you. Those names, and anything else for that matter on your computer, can never be completely removed. There is no publicly available software that can completely hide traces of the existence of things that have ever been on a hard disk. The DoJ and other agencies have classified software than can recover data from nearly any hard disk that has averted the metal shredder.

 

Just so you know, you can add or remove sites from this registry key:
..../Zone Maps> Domains
via Internet Options > Security Tab > Restricted Sites > Sites button. (security software may or may not put them back)
