I think I am under serious attack. I have a Dell Inspiron 14R personal laptop running Windows 7 Home Edition. I have installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 and MalwareBytes 1.61.0.1400. All has been well until recently. All my software is licenced.

    Problems:
    1. Windows keeps asking me for Administrative password. Under users I am defined as "Standard user ". I am unable to change to Administrator. This is my big fear.
    2. I cannot change my Kaspersky settings. When I try, I am prompted for a password. I did not select the option for passwoed when I installed Kaspersky.
    3. Malwarebytes Protection has been disabled. Updates are not possible. The last update was on 14/06/2012. MBAM returns PROGRAM_ERROR_PROTECTION_MODULE (0,0, ProtectionEnable) when I try to turn on Protection.

I have run Kaspersky and MalwareBytes full scans. They all return - No Malware detected.

Any ideas/help will be highly appreciated.

MBAM is now ok after I uninstalled with mbam-clean.exe and installed it again. I don't know if this will last. The other problems remain.

Did you forget your Windows administrator password? Click Log off under the Shut down menu, then log back in as Administrator.

Which suggests that when you installed it you where logged in as admin. If you are logged in as a "standard" user you won't be able to install a lot of software, and definitely not security software. You are prompted for your Windows admin password, perfectly normal.

Am still stuck with this problem. I uninstalled MBAM and installed again. It is working fine, but the other issues remain. I am just limping on - considering re-installing Windows.
