I just found out how to enable the quick launch bar. However, there are two problems with it--(1) the icons are too small, and (2) I can't seem to move it all the way over the left (immediately adjacent to the Windows orb). I have this problem even when the taskbar is NOT locked.

Here is a screenshot to show what I mean.

How can I take care of either of these? Both are so annoying that its almost enough to make me want to go back to the regular Win7 taskbar.

Grab the dotted line just to the left of the Quick Launch icons and drag it past the other dotted line all the way to the start button (as if you were going to drop it onto the button). The two lines you have now should swap positions when you've dragged far enough.

At least, it's worked for me.

Hi Paul. The empty space on the taskbar to the left of the quick launch bar is where a programs status would appear. Click Start< Computer. The My Computer window will open to the left of the quick launch bar. Now with your mouse move that over to the right of the quick launch bar. Now reorganize the toolbars as you see fit then lock the taskbar. Now close the My Computer window.

See my screenshot below to see how the quick launch bar should show up.

Thanks, that did it. I was left-click drag-n-dropping, but I needed to right-click and dragndrop. Now the programs that open up, appear on the taskbar to teh RIGHT of the program shortcuts in the quick launch bar.

Now all I need is to make them bigger. The way they look now, I feel like Gulliver using a laptop made in Lilliput.

FWIW, I did a right-click on the taskbar properties, and the "show small icons" is not checked.

In the taskbar properties, if the show small icons option is checked then the taskbar will be uniform with the quick launch shortcuts like in my screenshot. I don't think you can make the quick launch shortcuts any bigger though.

Problem with that option is that ALL the icons (including the taskbar) are now so small....
Man I'm really wondering why MS decided to mess with teh quick launch bar... I use an Explorer substitute b/c Explorer got tweaked way too much with Windows 7.... and you can't really pin folders to the Taskbar, so I need the Quick Launch bar--the toolbar with real small icons...

well I'll figure out which is easiest on my eyes....

    thanks anyways.

Found out how to make the Quick Launch bar icons big. With the taskbar unlocked, I right-clicked on the QL bar itself, and at the top was a View option. Hovering over that gave me the option to pick large or small icons. Now it looks like a normal Windows 7 taskbar--except that I can drag any folder there, and not just apps, like with the default Win7 taskbar.
