I run two virus checks every day, one with Avast and one with Malwarebytes. I also run TFC once a week (at your recommendation). Something weird just happened. My Avast check just determined that the TFC desktop icon was infected, and moved it into the virus chest.

The last time I used TFC was three days ago. I'm wondering what might have happened that would cause this, and is it safe (and/or advisable) to re-download TFC? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Did you look on the Avast boards to see if this was a problem? May have been one of those false positives.

No, but I will go do that right now. I've never checked the "Avast Boards" before, so this will be a new experience.

So did another guy (HERE and HERE). Apparently this is a recent development, and hopefully somebody will get to the bottom of the situation soon. Meanwhile, I would advise people who's computers are equipped with Avast to at least temporarily hold off on TFC sweeps until it can be determined what's going on.

It looks like Avast fixed it.

According to their forums, they have. I'm thinking that it still might be wiser to re-download it than to retrieve it from the virus chest, however.

Avast ID cercsr6.sys as virus:win32:sirefef-APP [Rtk]

Two days ago I receceived notice that my Avast (basic) program located and confined CERCSR6.SYS and identified as a virus in the Virus Chest. Although it may have, When I logged on to my home page "AOL ", I lost connectivity and couldn't reconnect to the internet - receiveing msg: "The DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ASC\ASCUI.DLL is not a valid Windows image." When I tried to open any apps including Task Mgr and Avast, I receive msg "Not enough recources to initiate application ". I found that by changing my home page from AOL, I can surf the internet but, on 2 occassins, when I connected to AOL, from RCN page, after a while it came back and I lost connectivity again with all same effects. To get back, I have to reboot all over again. So far in this session, in my AOL account, I haven't been affected; keeping my fingers crossed. LOL. Anyway can anyone help. I have Windows XP. By the way, When I opened to see the Avast Virus Chest, it states the virus was originally located in file "cercsr6.sys" at C:\Windows\system32\drivers. Again can anyone help me. I will greatly appreciated any assistance.

Please start a thread of your own. While you have a problem with Avast, it is different than the OP's. Trying to keep up with 2 different problems with 2 different people in the same thread will get somebody confused.
