Resolved netbook win 7 Basic no DVD

    My wife has a netbook with win 7 basic we want her to be able to watch DVD movies. I have not thius far been able to do this can someone tell me short of upgrading to another windows that this can be done?

    Hi Robert. Since you can't play DVD's with Windows 7 Basic, download and install K-Lite Codec Pack Standard.

    This codec pack will give Windows Media Player the capability to play DVD's even on lower editions of Windows.

    Great I will download and try tomorrow. I will let you know how I make out. On the netbook when I insert the dcd the autorun does not currentky activate will this fix that as well or do I have to call up a file on the DVD thanks for the info.

    It should work. I am assuming that the optical drive in the netbook is a DVD drive correct?

    drive is a usb external dvd reader burner

    The drive used is a samsung external writer model SE-S084
