Desktop A hardwired to Netgear router, laptop B has wireless connection to router. Both Win7/64. I can get computer A (where the homegroup was established) to read and write (ie, permanently change) folders/files on computer B, but B can only read (not write) to A. I'm supposed to get a "Share with" option when I rt-clk A's folders/files to let B read/write on A, but I don't get that option (but I did get it on B during setup that allowed A to write on B!). I must have a setting wrong someplace on A (but they're the same on B) that won't give me the "share with" option. Any ideas?

OK, I just realized I have made a statement in error, sorry. When I rt click on the "Libraries" of B using B, I get Share With. When I rt click the Libraries of A using A, there is no Share With. If I rt click folders/files on A or B, I get Advanced Sharing. So I think the problem is back at the Library-level, that's where I can choose Read Only or Read/Write.

Also; I just found this from M$. "If you don't see the Share with menu, you might be trying to share an item on a network or other unsupported location. The Share with menu also won't appear when you select files outside your personal folder. " What does this mean? How does it explain why I can do what I want in one "direction "?, but not the other?

Check the network the laptop is connected to. It may be inadvertently set as a Public network and not Home network, in which case, some file & print sharing settings will automatically prohibited.

Tony...I think I'm OK there. On B's Ntwk&Share Center screen, B shows as connected to the wireless link and then to the internet. On A's screen, A shows as connected to "Network 4" and then to the internet. Both the wireless link and Network 4 are shown as joined members of the home network. But there's no explicit graphic showing A and B connected.

I believe everything is enabled/hooked up OK, the only thing I can't do is write/change a file on A from B. I can start writing on A's file, but when I go to save the changes, "access is denied ".

I think the root of the problem is that when I rt-clk an A library, I don't get the Share With option. I just don't understand that statement from M$ (previous post), what am I supposed to do? Thnx.

In your Sarch programs and files box on the Start menu type Network. Click Network and Sharing Center on the Start menu.

Below View your active networks, make sure all are listed as Home network. If not, click the name of this listing (either Work network or Public network) and change it to Home network.

Arie...attached is what I see: the left pic is A, the right is B. Alexandra is the name of the wireless link (between B and router).

You have 2 separate Home Networks, one called Network 4 and one called Alexandra. Change to both the same name, one or the other.

Tony...forgive my ignorance, but Win7 assigned the name "Network 4 ", and there's no apparent way to change it. And it must be OK as is, I have no problems using A to do anything I want on B.

I don't know what else to say...nothing seems to work, I can't seem to over-ride "access is denied ". I'll mark it as resolved to get it out of the way. Thanks, anyway.
