What i like to do is be able to show on my computer steps to take in solving a problem and then be able to send it to my family member in a email how its done so he can try it on his computer . There's plenty around Tim, though I've no experience with any...

Try googling for Screen Recording software, this (Video Capture Software from NCH) looks promising, it appears to be freeware for non commercial use. As I say though I don't use such things so untried.

    BTW Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Thank you for the welcome and suggestion . Though I should of mention I need a software that doesn't require a webcam . I am not even sure if a screen recorded software is what I need or is it ? I just want to some how show steps were one can see and follow it . Do I still need a screen recorded software ? BTW I don't have a webcam

    Thanks

Ignore the warning regarding the webcam on setup, I've tested this and it does exactly what you require.

It records everything that happens on your screen to an AVI file. However, assuming you and your friend both have a decent internet service have you thought about remote control (you do the work and he can watch for future reference).

Cam Studio is also widely used (& free).

Microsoft's Expression Encoder 4 worked best for me. The free version lets you capture in 10 minute segments.
