The first version of the Windows operating system to be shipped, had the code-name Interface Manager "“ and it was ultimately this name that was considered as the final name. But the name Windows prevailed because it best described the computing "windows" which were fundamental to this new operating system from Microsoft. Microsoft supplied Windows 1.0 on 5 floppy disks!

I switched from AmigaDos/Workbench 1.3 to MSDos 4.01/Windows 3.11 only because my Amiga was just starting to show it's age :(

Actually I can do nothing about the article. Why don't you contact them and have them correct it?

    Get a room guys :)

MS had/have differing shipping arrangements depending on area (eg I believe MSDOS 4.01 was only released officially in Europe) so you could both be right.

    I don't need a room. I just posted an article. I didn't question it.

My apologies MrBill, I was only trying to lighten the mood. I didn't mean any disrespect to you nor the Doc.

Occasionally some people have to lighten up a bit here (including myself) and some people question things that really don't need questioning.

    Take care mate.

    Perhaps Old Chicken did though?

Whatever, as long as we're happy with our 640Kb RAM limitation what's the problem :D

Doc, MrBill posted about a small (IMO) milestone in computing history. Why nitpick about a minor revision. Let it go mate.

I always thought that the fact that Microsoft never actually released the "1.00" version of Windows was rather interesting. Looks like I'm the only one that thought so though. <-shrug-> Oh well. :)

I beg to differ. In fact I'd go as far as to say there was a 0.8, 0.9 version.

I'm not arguing about that, but as I posted earlier why quibble about a minor revision?

Fair enough, personally I don't see it as interesting (it was hardly a great stepping stone for OS's in any case). Whether 1.0 or 1.01 is it such a big deal?

For me it's probably one of the worst things to happen to the PC (yes I am aware of the board I'm posting on) apart from MS's purchase of QDOS, but we live with it and many people are happy with it.
