    Hi ... I have this Laptop >>> HP Pavilion dv6308ca Notebook PC --- HP Pavilion DV6308 AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 1.6GHz 1GB 120GB DVD±R 15.4" WXGA LAN Firewire GeForce Go 6150 ... ( XP PRO sp3 > its not 64 )...

    I want to buy more Ram and I know I need DDR 2 -- PC2-5300 -- 200-pin SODIMM

What I like to know is my motherboard is a 64bit . I believe I also need 64 bit Rams , yes ? How does it work with 64 bit MB ? Thanks

I think you're getting a little confused Terry, you know the type of RAM, that's all you need (32bit/64bit doesn't really come into it).

You can use www.crucial.com to verify that you have ID'd the neccesary type of RAM correctly.

One thing to watch though (which is 32/64bit relevant) is the 4Gb (effectivley ~3.5Gb) limit that a 32 bit OS has, If your OS is only 32bit I wouldn't bother going past 3Gb unless you plan to upgrade to a 64bit system in the future.

EDIT: Just checked crucial for you, the 4GB issue isn't a problem as your system can only handle 2Gb

Here's what crucial has to say

Yes I am confused . This is why i have good people like you to help me through this LOL , Thanks ... The Ram I posted are the limit this unit can handle . i mean its max is 2gb . So I need to get 2 sticks one gb each . So because my board is 64 bit are you saying the ram doesn't matter as long as I have the right type ? This is the highest I can go >> DDR 2 -- PC2-5300 -- 200-pin SODIMM .. Its funny I have done that program beforehand ( Crucial )

    Here what it show

    Module Size: 2GB kit (1GBx2)
    Package: 200-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
    Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 "¢ CL=5 "¢ Unbuffered "¢ NON-ECC "¢ DDR2-667 "¢ 1.8V "¢ 128Meg x 64 "¢

    Thanks

64 x 128Mbit chips (= 1024Mbyte or 1GB) ;) seriously don't get too worked up about it. As long as you buy the right type of ram it'll work.

BTW are you sure you need 2x1Gb modules? Fair enough if you already have 2x512MB's but if you're lucky there may already be 1x1GB and an empty slot (so another 1x1Gb woiuld suffice)

Okay I will take your word on it ... I found this laptop in the garbage on friday and the first thing I started doing was looking at the hardware ... I'm going to get within the hour a new hard drive , 500gb - 7200 speed / Ram and the battery is on order because this one was dead ... I can't understand some people . Throwing this unit out for garbage and their was nothing wrong with it . It did have Vista on it but would someone throw it out because of that ? This person actually put out 2 laptops , the other one was a old P3
