Which version? I am using Firefox 5, and the home icon is on the same bar where the < and > buttons, and the address box are located, and I think that the older versions are the same. As for Bookmarks, it is a different story. Select Bookmarks (top bar)|Bookmark this Page|drop down to Bookmarks Toolbar, and select. If you want to move around the bookmark, you can drag and drop and wherever you want it, from the Bookmarks Toolbar.
For instance, I managed through abbreviation to fit 17 folders or sites on the Bookmarks toolbar. I also have 19 more which are accessible from the drop down, at the far right. I took one link from the dropdown, and move it in the middle of the toolbar. Then, I placed one link on the dropdown around, making reappear the one folder which displaced by the previous action.

I do not seem to be able to add anything to the toolbar, the bar with Bookmarks ", either a folder or a webpage. I am rather mystified about this.
I followed all the advice given above, but either I am missing something obvious or my copy of Seamonkey is broke.

    .
My 2.0.14 does not have a Home icon. Bookmarks are shown on the top, the Menu bar, as well as the Personal Toolbar. If you don't see a Personal Toolbar, check the View|Toolbar|Personal Toolbar should have a check mark. However, this version of Firefox did not have a visible Personal Toolbar, until I was able to install the Prefbar. Now, from no bookmarks, I have them in two toolbars.
Adblock has been givin g me considerable problem, and this version is the only one with an installed Adblock.
Otherwise, I don't understand what you want. Try the link in the other post. May be you will find something which matches your desires.

I figured out how to make it work, thanks to a thread on MozillaZine. You open your bookmarks menu->manage bookmarks->hit new folder and name it Personal Toolbar or anything else. With it highlighted go to the view menu and hit "set it as Personal Toolbar. Everything then works. Draging to toolbar and placing folders there.

I had, and have now, a "Personal Toolbar ", and if such bar is not full, all I need to do to add a folder or bookmark, is to right click, on an empty spot to the right end of the Personal Toolbar, and select New Bookmark or New Folder. Then I can give it a name, etc.
    It could not be simpler.
I am using Firefox5 beta, and it has a home icon to the immediate right of the Search box. So, it depends on the version+theme on what you see and where it is.

I haven't had any problems with FF and the toolbar. The problem was SM because the Manage Bookmarks did NOT have a file designated as the Personal Toolbar,

Do you have Adblock in your Seamonkey? Is this the first time you have had Seamonkry?

I do have Adblock and it is on the toolbar where I have other folders and websites, which I just figured out how to add,
I've been using SM since the demise of Netscape, many, many years.

So, must I assume that you tried my earlier suggestions, especially my post #6, and they did not work, i.e. you did not have a visible Personal Toolbar Personally, I have had Seamonkey since it came out, and had a Personal Toolbar but never had Adblock. When I installed Adblock in a Firefox4.x my Personal Toolbar disappeared. My point is that I did not have to go to Manage Bookmarks to enter anything in the Personal Toolbar.
