    But works only for 10 days, after which you have to download a fresh copy with latest AV database. Why can't it be updated online ?

    It works just like the Norton & McAfee similar tools, they expire after a set time. One reason is because many malware/viruses can render network connections useless, in which case no antivirus tool can be updated. Such a tool will have the latest updates already.

    Usually, such tools are downloaded to be used on a separate infected computer.
