Using Thunderbird 3.1.9 and applicable updates, I have a Gmail and Comcast mail account set up. Under Gmail's account, is an "All Mail Folder" which stores all mail in and sent.

Since I have built sub folders for various emails, can I safely delete the "All Mail" folder?

Also; drop/drag can take up to 20 seconds for an individual mail.
What could be slowing that down? Same whether on or offline.
    Thanks for any help.
    Bob

I am using eight accounts, with three different providers. I, not only have, but prefer to keep my accounts separate, so, I don't have to be concerned about any "all Mail" folder.
In fact, I don't even know what it is. Is it the list to the left of the accounts? Is it there?
I can see my accounts in a different way, if listed from "All Folders" to "Unified folders ", where everything is in one Inbox, etc.
As for moving mail, I don't like TB 3.1.9, when compared with the older 2.0.0.24, because it is painfully slow, but, only while new mail is downloaded. In fact, I cannot do any deletion or moving, but, after all new message are downloaded, it reacts instantly.
Did you set up your mail with Global Settings? i.e. all mail will be displayed together?

When I setup Gmail in Thunderbird, by default, Gmail added a "All Mail" folder. It also set it up under my Comcast address.
I wouldn't have GMail except Comcast mail was not giving me all my messages since last September. GMail solved that much.

All Mail, is a sub-folder under my GMail account by default, along with Drafts, Spam, Sent, Trash, and Starred.

I'd like to reinstall the TB 2.0 version, but am afraid of losing my folders.

Yes, Global. All mail comes into both accounts by the Inbox, if that is what you mean.

    Thank You
    Bob

I, always, uncheck that box. It is a mess, otherwise. I, rarely, keep over 100 messages in my Inbox, and would I have the Global settings, my Inbox would have nearly 700 messages. I would, never, be able to keep up with new messages. My ISPs are Cox ( six usernames), AOL and Yahoo (one username each).
Since the Profiles are located in different folders from the programs, I doubt that there would be any problem going back to 2.0.0.24, but I do not like to ,effectively, share profiles, as problems have occurred, in the past, with Netscape 7, etc. That is why, I have completely separate profiles for v.2 and 3, and I am running both of them. In any event, there would no actual loss, since the folders remain where they were, but one would need to do some manual work.
When you say that Comcast have not given you all messages, what do you mean? Its own, or what? Probably the Global setting creates an All Mail folder, because I have never seen it.
Sorry for not being of help, but I cannot give advice on anything I don't have.
I don't use either Gmail nor Comcast, but I have two relatives with Comcast.
To me, the biggest problem with Thunderbird 3.x has been its propensity to attempt to guess the server settings. And, it has, yet to guess them right. This was supposed to help users who do not know the settings.
Take a look at this link as an example. I would try to get info from Comcast on how to set up an account in a Microsoft mail program, and compare your settings in your Thunderbird , with those given you by Comcast, and, then, modify, manually, your settings. As far as I know, Comcast is clueless about Thunderbird.

Thanks for your advice. I am looking into your suggestions. As for Comcast, the only thing they are good for is raising their charges. As soon as ATT Uverse gets here, I will be switching, and setting up separate accounts with them. In the meantime, I'll put up with the "mess" which I did manage to get under control.
FYI: Account setups for Thunderbird were taken from G-Mail help pages as are many stand alone email progs.
