Great to hear jan roberts. Thanks for your thoughts about earthquake victims. Latest news is 146 dead.
The battery is usually CR2032 and make sure you disconnect all AC power input to comp before you start touching things.
Your Dell Techo has probably changed your Mother board to something slightly different from original specs.
You will need to get into BIOS to shut down your built in Sound if you are to use a card. It may be possible to Disable in Device Manager as was suggested by Zander (I think). Cheers Neil.;)

Usually a failing battery will cause your date and time to be wrong. Other things can happen, but this is the most common way to tell.
The battery that you will need will be a CS2032. It looks like a watch battery, but is about the size of a nickle. If you change it, just make sure you watch which way it was in there. One side is + and the other is -. They can be bought from Wally World or Radio Shack or a PC store for about 3 or 4 bucks. Easy to change. Some have a little arm over them so be careful not to break it off as that is what sees/reads one side of the battery. Usually a small screwdriver and you can kind of push it out on the opposite side of the arm.

i think that i have other problems besides just sound.
used TFC to clean it removed 168mb on restart it froze. powered off with button waited 5min started. no beeps,no sound.
went to ie8 to clean the cache, found my homepage set to "about blank "instead of igoogle. put igoogle back as homepage, and then computer running 100% and tabs opening across the header,a few igoogle, lots of about blank.
    got everything stopped,via task manager.
could this have anything with my sound problems.
only reason i was doing the "cleaning" was because how the cursor was giggling and skipping spaces. usually cleaning works
but never open ie8 props to find diffent home page.
