IDE drive going bad. Installed new SATA drive, loaded XP, all good, but can't get to the internet. Network connections are enabled, connected. Click repair, "Windows couldn't finish repairing because the following actions can't be (something) -Failed to query TCP/IP settings of connection. "

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

It would help if we knew what (something) was exactly, and how you connect to the internet normally.

Please complete your system details. it could help us answer this and any further queries you may have.

    Evan,

No offence but snailseeker may be connecting directly to the internet in which case it could well be (albeit coincidental) an ISP issue.

We can all google but sometimes a little more background can be more productive.

I still think supplying system details is the way to go here, before the thread is messed up chasing red herrings.

Without more information we don't know if snailseeker is directed connected to internet by a wired or a wireless connection. I was going off of just the error message that was provided in the original post.

But your right once the OP gives us some more detailed information we can help accordingly.

Have uploaded sys details. Internet conn is as follows - wall jack, POTS cable, Westell DSL Modem, 8" CAT5 to Belkin Wirelees router (services the PS3, netbook, laptop) 16" CAT5
to plug on motherboard. I'm currently online with the IDE XP install, toggling back and forth between hard drives through BIOS at startup (so it's not an ISP problem). @ Evan - Thanks, hadn't thought of resetting the winsock, giving that a quick try...

    Thanks SS,

When you say you're switching between drives do you mean your failing PATA (IDE) and your new SATA?

If so did you clone the drives (how?) or is the SATA a fresh install (Did you install chipset drivers)?

Yes, switching between failing and new drives. No clone, fresh install.

In which case did you install the chipset drivers?

Yes, installed the drivers. After seeing your question (and being at my wits end) I re-installed the drivers, and Voila! all good now. Thanks to all who chimed in.
