Appreciate the fact that there may be a problem with the card itself - I would remove it, clean the contacts with a soft pencil eraser - down the contacts, not across, degrease and refit and test.

I would also repeat the same operation with your memory and run the PC with just one stick, see how it performs and then swap to the other stick. If there is no significant difference between the two then your memory is fine.

I take it that the PC is slow with everything, try running it in safe mode and see if the performance increases, then report back.

nothing's change after cleaning the card and the memory, I forgot to mention that this all begun when I upgraded my cpu & mboard, from intel dual core 2.2 to intel dual core 2.5 and asus p5vd2vm-se to jetway j31gm4-l, I am expecting for more performance but it become worse instead, is there any compatibility issue with this?

Hmm - that's rather basic info that was missing from the start :)

Did you install the chpset drivers on the new motherboard?

The jetway j31gm4-l has onboard graphics - are these disabled with the geforce 8400gs installed?

Look in the mobo manual - BIOS to check if there is a setting to disable the onboard graphics.

As a cross check look in Device Manager and see what graphics are running.

I would not see any incompatibility between the graphics card and the mobo.

I am not sure what you would gain from the new mobo but the CPU has only an increase of 0.3GHz which I doubt anyone would notice much.

Did you do a clean install of the OS when you swapped boards or at the very least a Repair install. Did you also install all of the required chipset drivers for the new mobo and reinstall drivers for any cards?

Sorry!, post crossed while I was editing information.

As far as I know the onboard graphics will disable automatically when you install a card but that may not occur with every mobo. If it needed to be disabled I would expect it to still be visible in Device Manager. You could check in the Bios just to be sure.

You didn't answer this question from post 3:
If performance is noticeably better in safe mode then we need to be looking for a windows service or a driver problem.

Check in Task Manager and see what the CPU and memory use is like while no programs are open.

i try to run games in safe mode, all the games wont work, one say "could not found display mode" other one says " unsupported vdeo card" I think thats why it works so slow but my monitor is plugged directly to the graphic card,.

I may be should have phrased my question differently.

What I was trying to determine was if the PC performs better in safe mode than it does in normal mode, not if the games ran better. Only basic drivers are in use in safe mode so the games would not be expected to run.

    You didn't answer this question:

Do this in normal mode and post back your observations.

Still in normal mode, start one of the games and see what level of usage the memory and CPU go up to. Post back your observations of that also.

normal mode w/out program running cpu usage 0% physical memory 29%
with game running cpu usage 45-79% physical memory up to 70%

So you went from a premium quality motherboard vendor (ASUS) to a cheap option.

You get what you pay for comes to mind. Sorry.

From those figures there is nothing hogging resources that could slow down the PC. As I said earlier the new CPU is a tiny improvement which would be hard to notice but unfortunately you have not improved anything with the new MOBO, it seems you have made it worse. Why did you think it would be faster?

As long as you have installed all the correct and up to date drivers for this new set up and have followed the instructions supplied with the MOBO then there is nothing you can do to make this PC go any faster other than go for a higher level of upgrade.

thanks to all of you guys, I really appreciate all your advice, now i realize that brand matters, my old mobo still in use with my other pc, asus is good, jetway a little bit cheaper but not reliable, now atleast I know what causes my pc to run slow. I just bought this dual core 2.5 together with jetway mobo and its not a good buy, I thought I could save but loss instead.
