Follow Zanders instructions and click Tools< Accounts< Double Click your gmail account< Servers tab< where it says Outgoing mail (SMTP) you need to make sure it reads smtp.gmail.com instead of whatever text is in that textbox.

If that doesn't work then I am all of ideas since I don't use Outlook Express and I may have to step back and let someone else give advice on how to setup Outlook Express properly.

Do you use Outlook Express to check your e-mail? Or do you just normally use an internet browser for accessing your gmail account?

If its the latter then you don't even need to use Outlook Express.

Ok. I am still not clear though if you need to use Outlook Express or not.

    Ok. Thanks for the information.

I don't have any experience using Outlook Express because I normally just use an Internet browser to access my e-mail so I never use the program.

In your case its up to you whether you want us to help you link your gmail account with Outlook Express.

Are you perfectly happy accessing gmail from an Internet browser or would you rather use Outlook Express?

If you want to use the "send to mail recipient" thing to send files you need to set up an account in Outlook Express for Gmail. To do that, you have to first enable POP in Gmail. You can find out how to do that here.

    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13273

Once you've done that, you need to set up an account for Gmail in Outlook Express. Instructions for that are on this page.

    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=76147

When you have it all set up, you should then be able to right click on a file and choose send to mail recipient. An Outlook Express new message window will open with the file already attached. When you send it, it will be sent through your Gmail account. It will appear in both the sent folder in OE and the sent folder in Gmail using your browser. You can use Outlook Express to access your mail or just continue using your browser, either way will work.

The only other way I've found to get it to work without Outlook Express or some other email program is to use a program like Affixa. I have no experience with it so can't tell you a whole lot about it. You'll have to take a look at it and see what you think. If you used it, assuming it does what it says it does, you wouldn't need to use Outlook Express.

If it were me I'd just set up the account in OE. I've used it in the past for Gmail and it works great. It's up to you though. I know we all have our own preferences so you'll have to decide for yourself. ;)
