A bit of a long shot I know but this is the only international board I'm a member of.

I would like to send a Polish family holiday wishes in their own language but don't have much of a clue about Polski (or is that Polska ;)).

I know I can use bablefish, google translator etc but have found them wanting in the past. My friends greeting to me was in perfect English (they had to have used a translator themselves).

Anyway to the point, if there is anyone fluent in both languages willing to translate a message for me I'd be grateful.

    Thanks Ski,

Given his location as CA I never associated him as a Polish speaker. I'll give him a couple of hours to see this thread then I may PM him.

They used to be neighbours when they first moved to the UK (around 5 years ago) and apart from the odd misunderstanding with translation we hit it off. They've since moved a few miles up the road but we still keep in touch.

Their English isn't too bad but Andrzej (the father) has a habit of saying the opposite of what he means (tomorrow instead of yesterday, come instead of go etc).

The plus side is I'm starting to pick up a little Polish.

Will do Broni, they're bound to ask who translated anyway.

I can understand in a way Andrzej's problem I have a similar issue with gender.

As you know when talking in English eg "Old man" & "Old woman" it's only the noun that changes but in Polish the verb changes as well. It's something that I just can't get my head around, almost like having to learn two separate languages.

I know. Polish may look complicated in some cases.
At least reading and pronunciation is fairly easy.
What you see is what you got.

    Not like in English....LOL

How the heck those Polish people ended up all the way in Scotland?

Dorota (the mother) doesn't like the cold, considering it's -7 degrees right now, I think they made the wrong choice perhaps they should have picked California :D

Seriously, Dundee population ~140,000 has around 5 -10K Polish inhabitants.

I don't want to get into politics because there is no real place for it on these boards but suffice to say... I am proud to be Scottish but this is not my country, it's my planet, your planet and everyone else's planet.

I just wish more people felt the same way.

    Wow! I'd never guess...

I know Scotland must be beautiful (my sister spent a week there last summer), but it's definitely not my type of weather.
I think, I got spoiled in CA :)

Not a chance mate, wind, snow, rain, sleet, hail, lightening, sunshine, calm, fog...

All in one day, now that's being spoilt by the weather ;)

I know that kind of weather back from Poland, but I never liked it.
I hate cold, so I'm very glad to be, where I'm now :)
