I recently got laptop with Windows 7, and Microsoft Live Mail. I googled how to add a pop3 account and followed the directions and it cannot connect to the servers.

Just a couple things here that may be your problem.

    Your POP3 should be 'pop3.live.com'.
    Your SMTP should be 'smtp.live.com'.
"Log on using Secure Password Authentication" should be unchecked.

The SMTP port number is 587, and POP3 port number is 995.
"This server requires a secure connection" should be checked for both of these.

POP account from which ISP? Any detailed error messages? The messages will report the reason)s) for failure.

I have attached the message I get when it fails. Marlp62 thanks for the try but it did not work. My ISP is comcast.net.

Looks like your using the account settings for Live Mail....But I'm guessing you like to get mail from your Comcast acct. Is that correct?

Steve, that is correct. At home I use comcast directly into Outlook Express on my home computer, not the laptop but when I go out or to work I use a wifi connection that is available where I am. Windows 7 does not have outlook express.

You need to enter the account info for Comcast into live mail since Comcast is thie company where the mail is coming from. Look inside OE's account setting to get the info.

My pop3 server is "mail.comcast.net" and the smtp is "smtp.comcast.net ". I have changed the respective ports to 587 and 995. None of this works I still cannot connect. I also tried with the default port numbers, 25, and 110.

FYI - these settings will work when your actually sitting at home. When you're anywhere else, you'll have to change the SMTP to match the ISP where you are at the time.
