I like to work on dual screen (extended display) at home and when time dues I close the LCD panel and go. In the public transport, I continue my work on the notebook. No problem in Windows Vista, but in Windows 7, the windows on the extended display just staying there as if the dual screen is still there, but not squeezing back to the main LCD screen on the notebook.

What is the best way to toggle (automatically) between a dual-screen / single-screen?

Your graphics adapter will have a control panel applet. In it there will likely be a section that lists the keyboard combinations that can be used to turn the dual display on and off.

It was there when Windows Vista was used. But after upgrade to Windows 7, it disappeared. And Asus declined to support it.

So, my current workaround is right-click to the desktop > Screen Resolution, and change the Multiple displays to Duplicate these displays if I wanna pack and go. Then when I reconnect with 2 screens, I change it back. But of course it's not as good as your mentioned method.

Is this tip of any use to you?:

Windows logo key + Shift+ Left Arrow or Right Arrow: Move a window from one monitor to another.

    Hi again IvanH,
Your welcome and I was happy to help. Never have had an opportunity to try this shortcut out myself but for some reason, memory hangs on to it.

I've been busy last few day. This is in fact very useful and I need to say thank you again. I've learnt this trick when the first microsoft keyboard out there but same as you didn't have much chance to use it. The work environment changed and I just couldn't remember it. You know how frustrating and embarrasiing it is during a presentation, opening up a new window which appears on a non-existing screen.

It gave me a few days of satisfaction. Good help!
