A Windows 7 Prof 64-bit notebook just updated from Windows Live Essential. After reboot and the first time I opened IE, an Internet Explorer Security windows asked me "Allow" or "Don't allow" the IE to open web content using Bing Bar. Though I checked "Do not show me the warning for this program again" and hit "Don't allow ". It kept on popping up endlessly.

I am not giving in! to check the "Allow" button. And the Bing Bar warning keeps on prompting. How can I get rid of it! It's so nasty!

(workaround: I am using Google Chrome now.)

Hi IvanH. To remove the Bing toolbar click Start< Control Panel< Uninstall a program. Find the bing toolbar and click uninstall. Once its been uninstalled reboot the computer and it should be gone from your system.

    Thanks OMO.

Oh, I searched for "Microsoft Bing" and it's not there. It seems that Microsoft knows it's so nasty that Bing Bar doesn't carry "Microsoft" as prefix.

Also, I have never clicked anything to accept installation of the Bing Bar! It's double nasty!#@@#\

By the way, whenever I close an IE, the Windows Live Companion wants to send my contents out and asks me to "allow" it. In this case, Windows Live Companion cannot be found at Control Panel>Programs and Features. I wonder what information Microsoft wants to peek from my computer!?!

Eventually, I un-installed the Windows Live Essentials 2011 completely!

When you choose Install all of Windows Live Essentials (recommended) it does tell you that Bing Bar is included.

You'll just have to pay attention!

If you want to remove Bing Bar, just go to Manage Ad-ons from Internet Explorer's settings menu, select Bing Bar and click the Disable button.

Bing Bar should be listed in Remove Programs. If not, select Windows Live Essentials and it may list Bing Bar and it can be removed there.

Tony: Interesting. Yesterday I installed WLE 2011 on Vista, and could have sworn that there was no option to remove Bing Bar, but I decided to double check, and yes, Bing Bar is listed in Programs and Features separately.

I tried it as well. At installation, there was no option but at un-installation, features could be un-installed by unchecking individually. And they affects only IE and Firefox, not Google Chrome, Safari or Opera. So, for those whose PCs opted for automatic Windows Update can let Windows Live Essential update automatically then go to Programs and Features to uninstall selectively.

It may not get "fully installed and registered" until the first time the browser is used after the WLE package is installed.
