is there a way to hardwire a internet connection from one computer in one room to to another computer in another room without having to change the router or actualy laying a lot of wire between the rooms since I forgot the password for the router? the router is not a linksys.

gerdy, Please change your subject heading. "gerdy" is not telling anyone anything about your problem.

You can reset your router to factory default by using the "Default" switch. Its usually present on all the routers. Push it with pencil tip for about 10 seconds. Your router would reboot into factory settings. You can then log in with default username & password.

Please explain exactly what you want to do. You don't need to access the router to add computers to the network, all you need to do is connect other computers using network cable.

If router is in Room A and comp1 is in Room B, there's a wire from the router to Room B. To connect comp2 in Room C you have 2 options: run a wire from router in Room A to Room C, or put a switch in Room B and run a wire from room B to Room C. Connect both comps to the switch.

    wireless routing

I heard that there was away to plug in a switch in the same room where the computer that has the router is and then plug in a second switch in the room where the second computer is without actualy having to lay any wires. I would like to use the internet from the computer that has the router on my second computer that is in the room upstairs. The first computer has DSL. I tried to see if I could get internet service from the computer downstairs when I bought the new computer but it could not find any signal. My Son-in-Law uses his laptop and he is able to get the signal in the kitchen so what am I doing wrong:confused? Any help would be appreciated.

The upstairs computer needs a wireless adapter. If this is a desktop computer you'll have to buy a wireless adapter and install it, either inside the comp or one that plugs into usb.

Waht type of wireless adapter are you talking about since I really don't know what kind to get. After I install it would it not ask me the password and or the key for the router from the other computer downstairs? Unfortunatly I don't remember either one. Thanks for all your help.

Any wireless adapter that's compatable with your computer will do.

Have your son-in-law run this free program on his laptop.
It will tell him the password for your wireless network.
