My friends email account has been hijacked or something. I get emails from "him" quite often. When I try to open his email l am then redirected to a site telling me how I can make a fortune by working just a few minutes a day. What is causing this & what can I do about it?

Do you just open his mail, or you click on something inside his mail?

Several possibilities, given in order of likelyhood:

    1. Your friend's email address and your email address are in someone else's address book and that comp is infected with a mass email worm which sends spam using different addresses in the From: field.

    2. Your friend's email address has been harvested by a spam bot and flagged as an active email account and a spammer is sending spam using different addresses in the From: field.

    3. Your friend's comp is infected with a mass email worm.

    4. Your comp is infected with a mass email worm.

Read the emails you get from your friend. Check their validity by viewing the email header/source and see if the Reply To: address is his, send friend a new message asking him if he sent the previous message to you.

BUT DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS AS YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE SENT TO MALICIOUS WEB SITES.
