    Hello all,

    I formatted and reinstalled on a friend PC Win 7 32bits with many applications;

    He needs to access a specific site which he's not being able to do under IE 32bit; he was advised by the company site to use IE 64bit.

    Now I have the option of either reformatting and do a full reinstallation which will take quite some time and I am not really into doing it OR finding a way of installing IE 64 bit on the already installed Win7 32bit.

    I am browsing the net and it seems there are no ways to do that; I got the advise to install virtual box then install Windows 7 64bits which I am thinking of doing.

    Before that, is there any way|tweak - I am not finding - to install and have IE 64bit work on Win 7 32bit?

    Thanx

    You cannot run 64 bit software on a 32 bit OS - period :)

    That's probably a 'stretch' to say the least!

    How about using other "32 bit" browsers like FF,Chrome ?

    How about posting the URL of the site here and letting those of us who have access to 64 bit IE give it a try?

    Hello all,

    Pete,

    it is his online banking site :)

    in fact, his site ask him to install the jv machine software (not the jre) then to disable the already jre installed but not working;

    We tried Chrome, Firefox, etc.. not working.

    A smartoso guy at his bank told him to install IE 64bit which would lead me to do the whole reformat and installation of win 7 64bit and many other needed applications.

    Can I install virtual box and install just win 7 64 bit? in this way, he will use his regular machine for all his work and just the virtual box|IE 64 bit for his online banking.

    Thanx

    A swift Google was not very helpful in providing a definitive answer - the overall impression gained was probably not - roughly the same for MS Virtual PC.

    One solution may be to dual boot x32 & x64 with the x64 install being basic.

    IMO I think the 'geeks' at the site in question are flannelling especially in the area of jave - IE 64 bit requires the 64 bit version of Java. Both 32 bit & 64 bit are installed on my x64 Pro box.

    Have you tried accessing the site in IE compatability mode?

    Have you tried accessing the site from a computer running XP or Vista and maybe an earlier version of IE.

    Hi Pete,

    yeah, my friend system was running WinXP pro + the required jvm and he was able to access his site;

    But, lately he wanted win7 which I installed.

    What is weird is that while I am trying to browse his site on my personal laptop (win 7 32bit), and installing the jvm, still, his site keep telling me that jvm is not installed and I, myself, cannot find it in my internet option |Advanced.

    Now, I right clicked IE, properties and compatibility; I can't choose any compativility since it is written that it is part of Windows.

    Which bank?

    I'm willing to bet the "IE 64 requirement" is pure BS

    Yea, virtual box support that:

    Did you install Win 7 Pro? If that is the case you can run XP mode - a free download from MS including a copy of XP Pro. If it is not Pro you can still run MS Virtual PC, but will require your own fresh copy of XP Pro.

    Their 'requirement' for IE x64 is garbage IMHO - just an excuse to get him off their backs.
    It's no longer listed as an option in IE8, but if you look in Programs & Features you should see it there.
    Try Page > Compatability View in IE. If it is greyed out Compatability view is not available or is already added to the Compatibility View settings.

    Edit Arie posted while I was composing - BS equates to garbage :)
