    Hi friends

In a PC running winxp.prof.sp2, in the Win Explorer normally you will see in Tools a menu option Folder Options. Even after repairing the OS, this option remains absent.

PC is protected with updated Spybot and AVG Anti. Malwarebyte scan shows nothing.

Any pointers to looking at the Registry to get it back. Thanks.

Changing a registry key sometimes cures it, but create a System Restore point first just in case something goes wrong.

In a Run window (Windows Logo key+R), type regedit, press Enter and in the left pane navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.

In the right pane look for an entry "NoFolderOptions ". If you have it there and it is set to 1, then modify it to 0 (zero). If it’s not present go to Edit > New > DWORD Value and name it NoFolderOptions and set it to zero.

    Thanks all of u

Walnut, i normally use erunt to backup the registry, but this case i slip.
    Arie, noted sp3 pointer.
Steve u are right, if i can see the Folder option i can get to my objective, yet to check that particular PC.

    Will revert after checking out.

    PS
Walnut & Steve, placed NoFolderOptions Dword value 0 to .. CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer, even after reboot the Folder option still missing in both WinExplorer Tools and Control Panel. Thus unable to set the rights on some folders, only simple sharing can be done ie only the sharing tab on each folder's properties.
Help please, don't desert me. :)

What happens when you type this :
    CONTROL FOLDERS
on the run line line of starmenu?
    -----------------------------------

Try fixes or reg patches, #129 and #225 on the left at "kellys korner" ( a trusted and often used site for repairs) :
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
NOTE*another that may be of interest is#368

    -------------------
If using xp home you may need to boot into safemode for the true administrators account. Many settings will only be available to the true admin not member with admin rights. Just a thought.

again a reference on Kellys site may help this process also, See #5 on the right.
    ---------------------

Another thing to keep in the back of mind is that malware love to disable this. Keeps you from being able to correct and use some options that they want control of. How sure are you that you are clean?

    Thanks Goddess, great pointers.

Typing Control Folders, winxp.prof.sp3 response with 'Operation Cancel due to restrictions in effects in PC. Contact adm'. Following yr lead using http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, line 225 CERTAINLY fix it. Appreciate yr pointer. Cheers!

Your most welcome and thank you for the update.

For those curious this is the reg fix that solved it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoFolderOptions "=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions]
    "NoBrowserOptions "=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer]
    "NoFolderOptions "=dword:00000000
As you can see, the previous thread posted was close just not involved or thorough enough.
