    Hey,

I do a lot of computer work and I often have to back up data. I find the fastest way to do this is to take the hard drive out of the computer I'm working on and put it one one of my usb enclosures to do the backup with my main pc.

The only problem with that is the whole ownership/permission thing, I get the access is denied message when I try to open certain folders. I know I can get around that by taking ownership of the folders, but that's always a pain, especially if I need to put the hard drive back in to the computer (and give ownership back)...

Is there any way Windows can just ignore permissions/ownership and let me copy the data without all the hassle??

    thanks

    -Sean

As I recall - if you copy the files FROM the My Doc folder TO a folder with a different name on your drive - you won't have the problem.

This works but what I'm looking to do is avoid changing permissions because when I put that drive back in the computer it came from it's permissions will have been messed up and I'll have to do the same reghack on that one, which I'd like to avoid because I try to make as few changes as possible on somebody elses computer and granting permission can sometimes take a long time.

    Did you try this?
Its system folders like My Docs that cause this. If you have files in non system folder you should have to deal woth ownerships..
