The person who helped me was Great and I'm evidently Malware Free but these problems remain so they recommended I submit as a new question in different forum. Am I in the right place, doing it correctly??

    Hi Beverly,

I just checked out your past post on Malware forums and noticed you, per Broni's advice to update vista to sp2, are having a problem and are showing up with the specific windows update error: Code: 0×80070426

Perhaps this past post will help:
    http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/win...-not-started-or-validation-not-genuine-error/

I also noticed this is dell and has integrated dell components. Can assume this is an OEM version. Perhaps a quick trip to Dell support site will offer any update or patch that may be needed to use or update your dell vista with the latest "service pack" successfully.

--------------May I also suggest you check out your options and security settings you've set and are using in AVG. If security restrictions are set to high you may run into all kinds of brick walls.

Goes for IE also, via Ie>tools>options>security tab

    Sorry Beverly,

Battery power laptop, when it decides it's low you better be a rabbit cause it only gives me seconds to do what I need before it's gone.

On the link I gave you there is a pinned thread, just under heading "annoucements" entitled "fix for software licensing service has stopped ". It is this post that I wanted you to see and check out, specifically the reg patch.

    I'm validated now!... But...

I don't have SP2 as far as I can tell and it doesn't find it when I search for updates. How can I tell for sure whether I have it now or not. It doesn't appear except as failed in my History. How do I get it? I turned on Auto Updates.

Hmmm... Seems like your already sp2 updated.

What does msinfo32 say your version is:
    start button>run line>type msinfo32

Version should be reflected in information.

Again using your dds log in malware forum http://www.windowsbbs.com/malware-v...-effected-even-mouse-keyboard.html#post527471
    This also reflected sp2.

Perhaps Broni was trying to make sure that you were current on all updates that may have been effected by virus and cleanup.
