in a Compaq 6000 series(6300 model) Tower anyone know approximate cost of parts and labor to replace HD {had 40 GB} & MoBoard

Please do NOT tell me that a 7 year old "puter is not worth repairing cause my Digital Camera that cost more than Computer new will not work on anything later than XP>>>>

Someone needs to GOOGLE for the parts and or same used system...

And for a guideline - a 7 year old pc with XP that works ok is worth about 50 bucks and can be bought by the truck load.

I had a quick google and I hate to disappoint you, but I have to agree with Steve. Just because your camera will not work with anything later than XP, does not mean you have to have a Dinosaur as a computer.
If you build yourself something a little bit more up to date the performance of your computer will be much better and therefore more enjoyment for you.
Your XP will perform much better for it.
Just for an example I use a couple of AMD 939 machines, now I know there will be a few LOL's around, since it is quite old but for what I do with them running Dual Core CPU's at 2.2GHz and 2.4 GHz with 3 GIG of Ram I don't need much more than that.
You can build one of them using your existing Case or just buy one second hand, and I will bet you that it would be cheaper than trying to upgrade your existing one, and whats more it will run rings around the one you have.
Please remember, this is just my opinion and I am sure that there will be many other opinions out there.
This is just to make you think about it.

Odds are the Compaq case will only take a mobo built for it by Compaq. Thus you're Very limited in your choice of mobo's...

And yes you are probably correct on that, I have never been a fan of HP or Compaq cases, plenty of ATX Cases around with a more suitable PSU.
Add that to his list. :D

$350 sounds close...It'd take a bit more then two hours if you wanted the operating system installed.

But as I mentioned you can get a 5 to 7 year old pc that is already running well with XP from around 50 dollars.

MIR11, Sorry no offence intended here, I was under the impression that you would be building the system yourself.
I personally have never bought a Brand Name Computer, always built my own, and my reference to Compaq cases was referring to that, not a complete PC. Those that I have built for others, often assembled from second hand parts, and that is what I had been referring to with the AMD 939 system. The only item that I have never used second hand is hard drives.

No offense taken, what i hoped for was don't try ..
or if you have replaced parts on car and are mechanically inclined, go for it, or an estimate which we covered..
By the way i have looked inside and all screws on MoBoard visible: the MoBoard only takes up half the space. i have seen others with bigger MoBoards..

MIR11 most probably you won't find the exact motherboard, so there is no point in looking for the part no./model no.

I would go out & search for the CPU socket instead. Whatever board supports your CPU & has the features you require should be good. Fitting it in old cabinet may be a problem though.

MIR11, you have not indicated why you wish to replace the Motherboard, hard-drive yes as 40 GIG is rather small.
If you just want to replace the Motherboard then I would suggest to follow rsinfo's suggestion. But a cost for a replacement Motherboard we can not provide for you, secondhand dealers would be your shot I would think, or e-bay.
Since you are not performing the job yourself I am still of the opinion that a replacement system like Tony suggested to you would be the cheaper and better solution.
But in the end it is your call, you are the boss.

    cheers
