GUIDE DOWNLOAD ERROR IN WINDOWS VISTA

The Guide could not be downloaded for the following reason: Internet connection failure (Code:13)
I have been struggling with this problem for about six weeks now with no good results on resolving it. I have tried everything I have seen posted (that sounds at all logical) and have spent many dozens of hours trying to resolve this problem.I have gone as far as tocompletely reinstall the operating system which one of the geniuses at HP suggested but only caused me many hours of more problems getting everything straightened out again. Can anyone come up with a solution that will work to fix this problem so that I can use my media center TV properly again? There is no problem with my cable connection or the TV tuner as you can watch live TV with no problem just no info. available. I obviously do not have an internet connection problem as I got here.

The computer I am dealing with is an HP Pavillion media center tv pc m7750n. By looking in device manager I think that the TV tuner card is Hauppauge winTV HVR-1600 ntsc/atsc Combo???

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32, I connect to the internet through AOL and a dial up connection.

Don't the TV guide listings come directly from a server on the internet accessable to practically everyone? or just where do they come from and how would a person find it?

I Thank You for the reply but everything I have seen posted so far has been tried. there are 2 things I have not tried.
1 to uninstall NORTON security I have seen that suggestion.
2 To completely delete the eHome folder which does not make any sense to me as all of the applications and extensions are there and how would I retrieve them?
    Thanks anyway

As I use neither Vista, Media Centre or a TV Tuner my ability to assist here is limited to Googling as you have clearly done extensively.

However it seems that eHome should not be deleted as it is an essential element of Media Centre.

However disabling or uninstalling Norton is a reversible option - if uninstalling you should use the Norton Removal Tool .....

Maybe I will give that a try. I was going to uninstall Norton once before but when you do so they threaten you with the fact that you may not be able to recover your subscription which I have paid up for a year so I did not do it.
Thank You for your help! Disabling Norton does no good the suggestion I saw posted somewhere said you must completely remove it from system which doesn't really make sense to me either.
    Once again I Thank you!!!

Just to let anyone know who may be experiencing this problem and reads this thread, I uninstalled NORTON Security Center and it did not help the problem so if you are experiencing this problem this does not fix it. I guess I will now reinstall Norton.

Well, error code 13 stands for:

This is generally an issue with the proxy configuration.

I'd try another ISP and see if that solves it. If it does, you know what to tell your ISP ;)

Also, check the System log in Event Viewer. See if you get event ID 2011

Obviously there is a failure to download any new guide data. I am certainly connected to the internet otherwise I could not get here. How can I try another ISP without subscribing to a new one as I am already an AOL subscriber? I have been using AOL and there have been no problems as I have had this machine and been using Media center and the Guide for 3 years now this problem just suddenly started about 2 months ago.

I can't advise you regarding other ISP, you'll have to check in your country.

Just an update to let everyone know what is happening here with this.
Since being here last I have done a number of things trying to resolve this problem. First of all I have researched antd tried all of the suggestions I have received with no luck. I have however (I thinl) uncovered a couple pieces of information along the way.
First of all I did a complete reinstall of the operating system(again), which as before cures the problem temporarily. I was able to download the guide probably 3 or 4 times and it worked perfectly. However it now has quit downloading again with no changes having been made to any systems or files at all with the same error as has been encountered all along. I did learn that (at least on my system) the guide listings initially come from zap2it which sends the guide data to a server at or run by Microsoft which then supplies them to the user. An interesting bit of info. if nothing else. I am still searching for a solution here and cannot seem to get one. Any thoughts ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry, I have no other ideas, as I never used this function (not available where I live).

Another update: I got tired of trying to download the guide with no success,so last night I did a system restore back to the time when I reinstalled the operating system and I'll be if the guide did not download today. However that presents some new problems of it's own.
First of all Windows is sitting wanting me to reinstall about 150 updates that need to be downloaded and reinstalled (but I am beginning to think possibly one of these updates is the problem with my EPG download problems). Also when I did the operating system reinstall somehow when reinstalling all of my backups, and there are 15 disks of backups many tens of thousands of files ended being duplicated (I know for sure that there were over 25,000 of them), this makes the system run totally crappy and some applications and programs will not work at all. I am not sure how this happened. I had to manually go in and delete all of these duplicates by hand and that as you can imagine was a real pain. It took me hours and hours searching for and deleting them. The system at that point worked beautifully but the EPG would not download. So I have now, after doing the system restore all of the duplicate files back the system is running crappy but I am able to download the guide again.
Question does doing a complete system reinstall duplicate many files on it's own?
I am now considering doing once again (and this will be the third time in less than two month's) another total operating system reinstall but only considering mind you beacuse it is a problem in it's own
First of all I must remove my dialup modem from the computer I found out when I did the first operating system reinstall if you leave it in there for some reason Windows will totally not recognize it anymore. And I would have to reinstall my backups(music, pictures, documents, games etc.) reinstall Norton security, reinstall AOL,Printer and drivers, the modem and drivers, and I still will be sitting here with Windows begging to download those 150 updates that it has.
I am quite unsure just what to do at this point. How many times can the operating system be reinstalled before risking some of the data being corrupted in the process and leaving me in an even worse situation?
Sorry about the long windedness of this but I am very frustrated. I just wish someone at Microsoft would take notice and help me and many others with this problem and others like it but it appears that Microsoft could care less probably just trying to force everyone to purchase Windows7 or a new machine with Windows on it.
