    Hi,
I am not sure where to post this question:
Windows XP SP3, Canon multifunction MP 240; (USP connection).
For no reason, when I try to print anything with an image I get a "save as" box (in "my documents" folder) with the file type a tiff (which If I save, opens in a Microsoft Office Picture Manager window.) Nothing occurred prior. No additions, removals, etc.
    My PC is up-to-date.
I just updated the printer drivers.
I did not however do a clean up-date.
I did unplug the printer for a while. (And did a cold boot)

Has anyone heard of this? I do not think it is the printer. I believe it is the computer. I really need the use of the printer!

This occurs whether or not I use print preview.
    Please advise!
    Thanks

    Control Panel->Printer
Is the Cannon set to DEFAULT or is something else like Doc Image Writer?

    Update - Please see below

    Thank you for replying.
    There are 4 items:
    1. Canon MP240 series Printer - With the default check mark, a "0" below the name and a "ready" (grayed out) below the "0 ".
    2. Microsoft Office Document Image Writer - with a "0" below the name but no "ready "
    3. Microsoft XPS Document Writer - With a "0" below the name and a "ready" (grayed out) below the "0 ".
    4. Send To OneNote 2007 - With a "0" below the name and a "ready" (grayed out) below the "0 ".

    A) Should I restore the registry to before installing the 2 sets of updates yesterday? (I'd created 2 restore points yesterday prior to installing each set of updates) - Although it was fine this morning...
    B) I will see what happens to the printers in control panel when I try to print a page with an image.

*** It is working with Internet Explorer but not with Firefox ***
I.E. has "add printer" and the 4 items listed above in the printer dialogue box and the canon is highlighted.

I fixed the problem (at least temporarily) which was due to Firefox (3.6.3) and AFAIK not directly related to Windows XP or to my printer.
    Briefly:
Firefox's "preference file" (prefs.js) has a line "print.print_printer Name of Printer" (Name = print.print_printer, Value = Name of Printer).
My prefs.js file had the Value as: "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer ".
I replaced this with: "Canon MP240 series Printer" (with Firefox closed) and rebooted.

If this applies to anybody, I copied the exact name of my printer (for the value correction) from the printer folder in control panel.

I apologize for having posted here but maybe someone will benefit from this.
