From time to time my DVD Burner Disappears. I can't see it in My Computer, can't see it in the Device Manager and obviously I cannot use it. Usually if I wait long enough it reappears by itself, but it didn't come back quick enough last time so I opened the Tower Unit to check for a loose connection, it was too tight and I didn't want to deal with it for fear I could mess up something else. But I fixed it by using the Trobleshooter in the Control Pane. It disappeared again but this time the Troubleshooter did not fix it. The strange thing is my CD drive disappeared a few hours ago and I checked the Device Manager to see if it was listed -- it was so I right clicked and uninstalled it then restarted the computer. The CD drive came back. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the DVD burner back? I would appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Is the DVD Burner recognized in the BIOS. Did the DVD come already installed when you got the computer.

Is it IDE or SATA? Check the connectivity between the motherboard and the system and also please try to change the power source cable.

    Can't see my CD/DVD burner

Anands, thank you for your offer of help. As for checking the connectivity between the motherboard and the system I tried to do that the last time I could not see the burner and it's a very tight squeeze so I didn't bother for fear of messing up something else -- but the burner came back. The burner is not recognized in the bios. The CD drive that is recognized says "IDE-DVD DROM62 ".

Now that we know it's not recognized in the BIOS do you still think I should change the power source cable?
