I downloaded the 'free' Avast anti-virus programme only to find it is of course NOT free but a trial error.
I immediately took a dislike to it as I found it would not allow me to control it by, for example disabling it if I wanted to in 'services' or to remove the icon from the task bar, at every step I was met with 'Access denied'.
I don't know about you, but I don't care to be denied access to programmes on my own computer.
I therefore decided to uninstall it with Revo uninstaller (advanced) and although it it ages to do so, it was unable to remove most of the files in the program files directory.
I tried to remove them with 'unlocker' and even that wouldn't work they really did 'hold fast' again all I got was 'Access denied'.
I have seen another thread in this forum where someone had the same problem and couldn't find a solution.
Eventually I was able to manually remove all the files in 'safe mode'.
Why, I wonder should anyone trust a programme which wont allow itself to be uninstalled in add/remove in control panel and even more so with an aggressive uninstaller like Revo.
I know some people seem to like this programme, but for me it's just another 'nasty'. and I wonder if anyone can explain why these people make their programmes so user unfriendly.

I agree with both Arie & Pete as I have it installed on 6 comps and I've only experienced 1 (one) problem download from Avast, which they fixed promptly without any hassles.
I have used over the years McAfee, Norton, AVG & Avira. I had severe problems with Avira which they could not repair and found the others to be resource hogs.
Very happy with Avast after maximum 3 years in one comp. Neil.:D
