I have recently installed MS Works Suite 2002 again (edited by Moderator for clarification) after having lost it on system somewhere a few weeks ago.It has downloaded all ok but I find I now cannot open the previous files I had. I can start a new document etc and it is showing all my files in 'documents' but when I click on them it flashes across screen 'dowloading file' then vanishes very quickly and still wont let me open it.Be grateful of any advice.

The other very annoying thing is every time I log on i am getting a Microsoft page coming up on screen before i click on my internet explorer anyone know how to stop this please???

Hi Snowdrop, could you give us more detail regarding MS Office (year version) and what your operating system is?
It pays to enter your 'System Details' under User CP.

[If this is your main system it would be helpful if you add your system details to your profile. Please click on the link and follow those instructions it could save some time when resolving this or further issues.

A common error is to forget to show your system details in your profile
    Quote:
To have your system specifications displayed in your profile, you have to click the link Edit Options, and under Thread Display Options > System Specifications select Yes from the drop-down menu.
If you do add your system specifications be sure to do the above]

    Thanks Neil.

In addition to the information Retiredlearner requested, when you say you "downloaded MS Office again," do you mean you downloaded it from the internet or that you installed it from CDs you already had?

Hi I downloaded it from CDs I bought because I had lost the previous ones.It is Microsoft Works Suite 2002.I chose this earlier version because I have worked with it for years and know it inside out.I also had to download OpenOffice.org.3.2. and I can open these files from that but would much prefer to work with my Microsft 2002.

Thank you for your interest.my system is MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION VERSION 2002 Service Pack 3

To avoid any further confusion I have edited your title and initial post. Office and Works are entirely different suites although Works also included, in some versions Microsoft Word :)

What is the file extension of the files that fail to open?

Does the instal of Works include Microsoft Word (.doc files) or Works Word Processor (.wps files)
Are you saying that you have recently made a fresh install of Works? Is this new install the same version as the one you had previously?

Thanks for editing Pete am grateful.

I bought what I thought was the same as Microsoft Word but I think you have hit the nail on the head it is 'Works Word Processor' and I am trying to open documents in it and I presume Works Word are different kind of files from what you say.Don't really understand all of that. So do you think I should stick with the'Open Office'??? as this did open up the documents.I just found that the old version of Microsoft Word worked well for me and did want to stick with it but I presume I will get use to Open office if I have no other choice.

Many thanks for all your trouble.

    Marlene

As far as opening .doc (MS Word) files in Works Word Processor it would seem to be possible following the method outlined here ....

How to Open a DOC File With Microsoft Works Word Processor

Double clicking on a Word .doc file will not open it, but the above method(s) should.

Unless you want to fork out for MS Office, Open Office is a great alternative, especially as it is freeware :)
