I am working on a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop. When power button is pressed. I can hear the fan start and nothing else happens. Laptop does not doing anything. Lights are on but nothing else happens. If I leave it sit with the power on, every few seconds it restarts the power. But will do nothing. Anyone have any thoughts? I have replace the ram memory. Took the battery out and just have the power connected, same thing. Tried holding down the power button for 30 seconds. Nothing.

Hi wyobison. Do you get any picture from the screen when you press the power button? Are there any beeps from the system after its powered on? Have you removed all external devices from the labtop such as printers, USB drives, etc?

Can you get into the BIOS at all?

No picture on the screen. Harddrive does not spin up. No devices connected. The only thing that happens is the lights come on and the fan turns on for a split second.

That doesn't sound good at all. :( I think the labtop has probably died. I assume that the keyboard isn't responsive when you press any of the keys? Can you take out the harddrive from the labtop?

Nothing happens whe pressing the keys. Took out the hard drive because I was going to get the data off it but it is a weird hard drive. It says it is a ATA but it does not have pins it has metal longated pins. Similar to the pins where you plug in the battery. Hard drive is a Fujitsu Model MHV21208H, I don't have an adapter for this type of hard drive. Do you know where I could get one?

Hi wyobison, When you held your Start button down for 30 seconds, did you have the battery out and the AC power adapter disconnected?

When you do the 30 second hold down - there should not be any power to the laptop as you are endeavouring to discharge any internal current.

Failing this, have you taken out the CMOS battery and re-installed after 10 seconds? Neil.

I did not have any power to the laptop when I tried the 30 second trick. I just now took out the CMOS battery and re-installed after 10 seconds. I did test the battery. It is a 3 volt batter and it tested at 2.1 volts.

I miss typed on one of my previous post regarding the hard drive type. It appears it is a scsi hard drive. Still trying to track down an adapter for this type of hard drive.

Ok. Keep us posted on whether you can find an adapter for the harddrive or not.

wyobison, could you confirm the model number of the drive (are you sure it's not SATA), Fujitsu doesn't appear to have a MHV21208H model and it's not common for Laptops to have a SCSI drive.

EDIT: Just checked, the CP V6000 series has SATA drives, look here... That adapter should be removable from your drive and you can use any 2.5" SATA/USB enclosure to connect the drive to another system

It is not a sata drive. I took some pictures of the hard drive I could email you. Send me a PM with your email address and I can send the pictures.
The drive has what looks like hook pins.
    Below is the drive info:
    Model number: mhv2120bh
    SN: NW9XT6729CWT

There is a sticker that notes "replace with" HP spare 431407-001

Please look at this link again.

The connector in your picture is removable, underneath you'll find standard SATA connections.

    No problem,

Sorry we couldn't help with the actual laptop but hopefully you'll be able to retrieve the data from the drive.
