Ask away hawk22. We're down to the academic short rows here so it's not hijacking as I see it. Anything that adds information and hopefully gets answers about a component of the thread is welcome. I'll do my best to answer and welcome others to respond.

@wksda623, I don't see that you mention running an error check on your source disk before cloning. That could be a factor that we shouldn't overlook. Start > Run > type chkdsk /r > click OK or press enter. Reboot and expect to wait several minutes for completion. When you return to Windows, the results of the scan can be seen in Event Viewer under Application > Winlogon entry. Start > Run > type Eventvwr > click OK or press enter.

I am baffled on this now! No errors of any kind. I even did a complete virus scan. Still nothing. This is strange to me.

Check to see how the data sizes of the two drives compare. I would expect some small difference but anything huge will be a red flag that says this source drive is failing and not capable of being cloned. That's a shot in the dark but all I can offer at this time.

    Guys,
Let me know about what you think about this.
I spoke with tech guy from the local school here in town and he said that if the old hard drive is not working right that I would not be able to clone the drive at all. Interesting!!!

Another thought, use Cool Tools to duplicate the source volume ID to the clone. Easy to do, worth a shot. You'd need both connected of course.

Also do the QBD option since you have a floppy drive. Then try dual booting with it. It'll set the default boot drive to be the clone. Again, with both drives connected.

thanks surferdude2, I have thought about it but I think it will be better if I start a new Thread in "Other Software" as my questions don't exactly blend in with this Thread.
    Hoping to see you there.

I've used this thread to help me do just what is being tried here. I used XXCLONE and it worked great, AFTER I got the new 160G drive to a size my BIOS would recognize. Windows had no problem with the size, but the PC did. There is a utility EASEUS, which is free for home use, to partition drives. It will also format when needed. I made the bootable drive 120G, even though the BIOS recognized 136G, then made a logical drive out of the rest. It booted fine after doing that. I don't know if it could handle the remaining 200G or so with your larger drive, but don't think it would be a problem. The utility allows you to resize drives easily, although it might need to reboot after some changes. Try resizing the boot part, which should take care of the problem. Kudos for the XXCLONE advice.

Aha! and eureka! I'm glad we got to the bottom of this. I like Xxclone so much that I was having a hard time believing it would let you down. Now that the trouble has been found and fixed, I must say, no other cloning software would be able to do that for you. The Cool Tools are a great feature.

Thanks for posting back your success so others can share.

    All the best, Dude
