    See the above response.

Since the driver was on C: it's now gone, and so far I've NOT been able to copy the driver itself from the clone to the new install. Any ideas?

A driver can not be copied, it has to be INSTALLED. Download the driver (installer) from the manufacturers website and run it.

If I have misunderstood and it actually is the driver (installer) that you have copied, run it.

You've got it correct. I meant to say I've NOT been able to copy the driver.
I downloaded the proper driver (from Creative) and then when I installed it was told the card was not present. I've pulled the card to verify the name and numbers and yet the driver from online does not match. I remember it was quite the process finding the driver last time, and don't recall where I finally found it. I'm now at a standstill, as I keep downloading drivers from Creative and nothing works.

The easiest way to get the Creative driver is to visit their site and allow the automatic function they offer to check your system and upgrade as needed. The button to click on that site is located at the bottom right-hand side. It's labeled Software AutoUpdate.

In your original post you said:
"Changing drives and want to copy partitions to new drive ".
Did you copy ALL the partitions to the new drive? Apparently not, because you say you did a new installation of XP on C:....otherwise you would still have the drivers installed.

Now you state: "...NOT been able to copy the driver itself from the clone to the new install."
WHAT clone? You state you did a new install of XP to C:, so WHAT clone are you talking about? The system is installed on C:...that's where the drivers would be installed, but if you did a new installation...that's a whole different kettle of fish.

Glenvee, What chas Berlin has neglected to tell you is that he has a drive with a clone copy of his previous C: drive. He still has that along with his new C: install.

    I have 2 dives. Orig & clone.
Did a new XP (SP2) install on orig drive. So orig has all the old partitions (data) and a new C: XP

Clone of orig was done just prior to new XP install on orig.

New orig does not have driver for sound blaster.

Not sure what you're referring to. There is only Software AutoUpdate. No accept button.

After you click the Software Autoupdate button, you will get another screen that you can scroll downward and see the Accept button, after reading the instructions and complying with the request to allow pop-ups..

I have no idea what your reasoning is. If you have a new drive and cloned the old to it, why are you booting the old drive with a new installation of XP on its C:? This makes no sense to me. Why aren't you simply booting the new drive with all the clones of the original partitions?
I seem to have missed what this is an exercise in......

Had trouble w/ my drive, so I did a new install of windows, but maintained the data partitions. I believe both the orig and clone were faulty (C:XP portion, that is).

Surfer, this is what I see after hitting auto update...

Creative Software AutoUpdate currently supports Windows® 98 or higher with Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher.

Windows Vista is currently not supported.

If you are using any other operating system or browser please select Manual Download or click here to proceed.

Hold the pohone, the penny just dropped. I'm on FF.
Will go check it w/ IE and post back.

And on that page, if you scroll down, you'll see the Accept button. At least I see it and I'm clicking the link you say you get??? Maybe the link is showing you something different????

Yes, we're seeing 2 different pages. See my previous post.

I just tried it again in IE and now see the screen you see.
Have to get off this drive (clone) and hook up the orig and do this again, and hopefully that will install the driver (on the orig w/ new XP install). Back in 5-10.
