I'd be grateful for some advice on what to be wary of when buying and selling software on the internet.

I am about to start up a company and was about to buy some laptops that don't have the latest windows or office software. I looked online and found a huge number of sellers on Amazon and Ebay in the US selling heavily discounted retail and OEM versions. I also came across sellers in Hong Kong/China selling things like Windows and Office.

So bottom line, can I buy software from a different country for use in the UK? Also if I buy in bulk to get a discount and don't use all of the copies can I resell them as well? I'm particularly interested in knowing the difference between retail versions and OEM versions and whether there is any distinction in what I can buy or resell.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

I will limit my comments to the above. There's only one comment to make here: STAY AWAY. 99.99999% sure it is pirated.

If the price sounds too good to be true, it almost always is.

    Have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/

When you go to a legitimate store like BestBuy or NewEgg.com - you will see a fair price....If you go anywhere else and the prices seem "to good to be true" then RUN FOREST RUN.

But for a person fixing to start a business - I would think you already know all of this;)

New Egg, BestBuy, sales at Staples or WallyWorld, but NEVER Ebay!

There, you have only the word of the seller that it is not pirated/cloned/duped...

If you're really serious about getting software to resell with your machines, contact the individual companies and see about becoming a legitimate reseller of the software.

    YMMV, mine doesn't.
