window installer at startup keeps coming on and I cant remove it!

I have windows xp . I have a HP desktop computer...at startup I have a window trying to load called "window installer" I have to keep clicking cancel until it goes away...sometimes it trys to come back and I will click cancel continousley and it goes away then I open up my internet explorer and Iam alright. I have tried different free downloads to remove it and have gone into add/change/remove and have removed it from there but it dosent go away even with reboot. I also have an icon at bottom right of my screen that says "intel (r) graphics" and have tried to remove it from add/change/remove and it comes back...this seems to be slowing down my computer and especailly my startup...thank you for any advice! I just want to get rid of these pesky tagalongs but cant seem to budge them...

 

I would let the installer complete the installation and ounce complete you can choose to remove what was installed if you don't want it.
As for Intel Graphics it sounds like part of your MoBo driver pack, what makes you think it's a pesky tag along?

 

I am trying to fix my husband's computer that has the same problem with Windows Installer..except it is not trying to install any specific program.

I have followed the links given here and the different Methods cannot be followed because the computer does not seem to find the msiexec.exe file. It is there in Windows/System32/

I even copied my file of the same name...same byte size but a day older..and replaced his with mine.

I follwed the instructions to check that the location was in the registry correctly then went into SAFE mode and followed all the instructions with RUN msiexec/regserver but it still couldn't file the darned file.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It says it will not work if Windows Installer is not installed properly and that seems to be the problem as it will not see the file msiexec.exe which is clearly in its correct folder and with regedit, I checked it is right location in register. I am not trying to install or uninstall any program that is half installed. I think the error came with a MS upgrade package in late November, early December.

Try Dial-a-fix, it can often resolve issues like this...

Download Dial-a-fix and extract the zip archive to your desktop. Start Dial-a-fix and click on the Check All button (Green Ticks) next to the go button at the bottom of the window. Click go and wait a few minutes for it to do it's stuff.

Close Dial-a-fix and restart, let us know how things go.

NOTE

Dial-a-fix is not yet compatible with IE8, if you have IE8 installed OK your way past the initial error and any errors that occur during the Explorer/IE/OE/shell/WMP registrations.

Good day Wildfire, just a note to let you know that the download site for this Dial-a-fix (blitware.com) as a bad reputation with WOT... Do you know the reason for that?

 

Not a clue, the link I supplied has an excellent reputation from here and djlizard's site has a good reputation.

Can I use this tool to check my system even if I don't have a problem?

RESOLVED Windows Installer will not go away

Thanks to all for suggestions. The solution was to go into SAFE MODE and register the msiexec.exe file. I actually copied and pasted the file from another computer before doing the following.

In Safe MODE
START
RUN
type msiexec/regserver

Then click OK
Turn off computer
Then Restart.

Hi everyone...in answer to question ...no Iam a different poster then the other person...I still have the same problem ...Intel icon on bottom right hand side of page and then also when I start up the white window of windows installer comes on and off...just sort of blinks..I have tried to google window registry cleaners for free and downloaded some but none have taken it away..I know I have a bunch of stuff or files that are slowing up my computer but because Iam not to experienced I have gotton into some things along the way..still searching for a GOOD and absolutley free cleaning of pc and straggling files..I know I havent made any files because Iam not that savy..lol..thanx for listening....

 

I prefer starting fresh (recovery or reinstall) rather than trying to "clean" a corrupted or possibly infected system. Ideally you would want to have a [system partition image] (backup, created with 3rd party software) you could use to restore your system to a healthy state. There are many posts about this subject.

 

oceangurl have you followed any of the instructions previously posted? ktb sort of grabbed the thread a bit and I wondered whether you were following along with the posts by wildfire? Did you try the MS link I posted? Don't use any Registry cleaners as you may end up with an unuseable system. Follow the suggestions already posted as they are safe to use. Neil.
