The best source of reference is your motherboard manual

Well, I don't know where you think we get our information from - the manual in this case - there is no way we can be experts on every motherboard under the sun :) I have never had a MSI board - always use Asus.

    According to the spec ...

    • SATAII controller integrated in Intel P55/JMicron® 322 / 363 chipset
    - Up to 3Gb/s transfer speed.
    - Supports six SATAII ports by P55
    - Supports two SATAII ports by JMicron 322, support SATA RAID 0/1/JBOD.
    - Supports one eSATA / USB combo port by JMicron 363.
    - Supports AHCI controller with AHCI / SATA RAID 0/1/5/10 by P55.

But you make statements without any info ....
    What error?
    Licence for what??
Ask him/her for the source of that information and see it for yourself.

Is he also fitting the new drive?

Or have you gone out and purchased a new one
Backed up your old drive (by the way, don't use this as a secondary (slave) drive, because bad sectors on a secondary drive can still slow your system ie it will)
Mounted the new drive (not sure if you tried the other port or not?)
    Then re-installed Windows clean

Is that where you are at the moment?
