I've read that Revo is more effective at completely removing programs (including registry bits) than Windows Add/Remove. I've seen here 2x now where Revo is not suggested for this. What's the story?

I only use Windows Add/Remove and basically have never had a problem. If I were to have a problem I might maybe then consider using an app like Revo.

I have been using Revo for sometime, since a reputable computer service shop recommended Revo.
Revo should like any other type of program file remover, used with utmost care, reading each window shown before clicking any of the boxes and then pressing OK.
Any software that deals with registry issues (deleting), if used reckless, can cause real trouble.

I agree with Bobbyscot.I have used Revo for all my uninstalls and it keeps alot of **** out of the registry. When you use Revo.Wait for the uninstall to uninstall the program as Revo will look for an uninstall from the selected program.Once the programs uninstall program runs click next.It will search for items left in the registry and display them.If you think about it.Do you want to leave all those bits in the registry?Any program that has its own uninstall program doesn't want to totally remove itself from your pc.Advertising taken to a new level. Also if you click tools, autorun manager you can stop any program that runs on startup without restarting your pc as with msconfig. One thing I like the most is if you right click on any of the programs once Revo displays them. You can search via Google to see what the program is.But as Bobbyscot says.READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!Just thought i'd put my 2 cents in.Revo is harmless and works good.

Only if you read the instructions and if you delete only the bolded registry entries. Good in experienced hands, less so in 'beginners' hands.

Possibly Revo had nothing to do w/ the issues I've had, though it was suggested it did. I am extremely careful about my registry, and have always looked before deleting when using Revo, so not sure what to think.
    Any thoughts Pete?

I've used it with no problems to speak of yet...although, I use it in safe, or moderate mode, for the most part.

After reading these comments I've decided to give Revo another go.

I use Revo Uninstaller when I can't get a program fully removed
But you must try to use the standard program uninstaller first (ie the normal way)

I also clean the registry with CCleaner (you need to click on the registry button in the program).

    All seems well :)

Pete, Do I recall you (or someone here) saying CCleaner was outdated?
    Is it still useful?
Broni had suggested TFC (Temporary File Cleaner) which I've been using.

    Outdated?

Well the new release v2.28.1091 released.. well, a couple of weeks ago!
Is Windows 7 ready and includes DNS cache cleaning, and a lot more.

I use TFC by OldTimer as well. But CCleaner is still my favorite
Regarding the "Registry" cleaning area. As far as I'm concerned CCleaner is the only safe App in the world for that.

But, I'd be interested in "Pete's" view myself :)

Does the latest version of Revo restrict some of the options that were available in previous the version?

After reviewing a chance to update the program, I decided against it due to some of the options being restricted...or at least that's the way I interpreted it.

I think your memory fails you :) I do not recall ever posting the fact that CCleaner is outdated and have on occasion recommended it with the rider that it should be used with care - i.e. check what is set to be cleaned before committing - the defaults may be excessive for some users. It is particularly useful for deleting IE's Index.dat files when needed.

You may be thinking of AdAware & Spybot which our Malware Analyst's consider to be past their 'sell by date'.

Revo will not work if the required program has been removed by another uninstaller program.
Revo only displays names of programs currently installed in the hard drive, and if said program has been removed by another uninstaller program, then Revo is unable to locate and remove that program.

Funny, I just uninstalled Spybot, and, as for Adaware, I haven't used it a year or more.

I've now switched to Malware bytes, and Super Anti-Spyware...although I still use Spyware Blaster, and WinPatrol.

According to your specs you have a ~1.7Ghz CPU and 1Gig of Ram
Really with having 4 Anti-Malware/Spyware programs plus your Antivirus (Avast is it) Plus running a firewall? (well at least Windows firewall) Your system must be slowing.

I think you're being a bit overkill on that; but this all depends on your online habits. ie If you are a frequent visitor to sites that may contain malware then I would understand it. But otherwise you could just start these apps and run a scan when required.

Generally I run an updated Malwarebytes Quick scan once a day
But this is because its free and it only takes about 5 or 10mins, and I can continue working normally.

Back to topic. Revo Uninstaller can still be used after a program is uninstalled normally. Its real point is when a program doesn't uninstall normally though, and in cases such as Antivirus programs etc. Then it would be better to download the Removal Tool (just about all the Antivirus softwares have this now) As an example here's SUPERAntispyware Uninstaller tool: http://www.superantispyware.com/downloads/SASUNINST.EXE

    Slowing?

    Not at all.

None of these malware programs run in the system tray, except Winpatrol, and I use ZA instead of XP's built-in firewall. Even though I stay away from malicious sites, conventional wisdom has taught me to use a layered defense.
