When I save or open within a program, I wish to know if I can change the default location it takes me? I am lazy and I hate all the extra clicking. I am comfortable with regedit and guess that is where I must go, but first I need to know if it is possible. Thank you.

Only my observation, it might send you to the program's default location (in it's C:\ Program Files) or it might send you to a Windows default location (the desktop or My Documents).

If you use the same program frequently, it might be worth changing it's default download/open location.

It will mean a registry edit, but sorry, registry editing is not my game.

    Which program?

3rd party applications usually have a setting under "Options" or "Preferences" that allow you to set the default location.

For example: When using MS Outlook Express and save, I wish to go directly to a specific directory, not the long route I must currently use.

When you "browse" to the new location, next time it will open at that location...

My experience is that this depends on the app. Some programs default to the Documents folder, some to the last saved folder, some to a fixed folder. A few keep this setting in the Registry (in which case it could be modified) but most seem not to. In the latter case, you would have to alter a program file (usually a dll) with a hex editor. Not recommended and probably more trouble than it is worth. The only other thing I could think of would be some kind of memory resident tool that would intercept path commands to the default folder on the fly and replace them with the desired path. Again, probably more trouble than it is worth.

    This may help:

I find that when saving attachments in Outlook Express, if I select the "Save As" option, it defaults to offering to save to the "My Documents" folder" but if I instead select the "Save All" option, it will offer to save to the last destination that I used.

Oddly enough, after selecting "Save All" you can deselect any files you choose (if necessary) in the following screen and still maintain the previous target offering.
