Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop with Lexmark Z1420 wireless printer. Has worked just fine, however now when I left-click the printer icon on the web page, nothing happens. Went to the file bar and clicked print, still nothing. Opened the printer properties and clicked print test page and it printed just fine. Replaced printer cable, changed usb port, and changed battery in the wireless remote. No change

It only happens trying to print a web page? If so, try highlighting the text/section you want to print, go to File -> Print and see what options are available there (like printing the selection or the frame).

Unless the print job is very simple, I don't use the Print icon, I go to File -> Print. Web pages often won't print (I expect because they can be made up of various scripts on the one page). If that suggestion doesn't work, highlight and copy the section you want to print, open a word processing program like Word or maybe Wordpad if there are no pictures, paste it there and print from that program.

Some web pages are inverted colours (light text on dark background). I doubt you would want to print them like that unless you are happy to change the ink cartridges very often. I also don't expect you want to print boarders or advertising.

Look around on the webpage for a "printer friendly" link. Some websites offer them, especially if it is technical information.

Mattman: I had tried file->print and it did not work either. I was able to print when I opened a PDF file and used the print icon there. Could this be a problem with the wireless mouse? I replaced the battery and it works ok with other tasks. This laptop and printer are only 3 weeks old! Terry

Try this. Highlight some of the plain text on this page, right-click on it and select Copy. Go to Start -> (All) Programs -> Accessories -> Wordpad. Paste it there (Edit -> Paste). Try printing that in Wordpad.

Actually, that is the method I use for printing any text from a web page. I don't bother trying to print directly from a web page, it hardly ever works.

    Here's an example:
    http://support.lexmark.com/index?se...e=en&productCode=LEXMARK_Z1420&page=product#1
See at the top right there is a Print link. It takes you here:
    http://support.lexmark.com/index?pm...&focusedTab=TabListPanelChanger_TOP_DOCUMENTS
Try printing both of those and you should see the difference. (The first page may not print, so do the second one first.) They provide those "Print" links because the normal web page cannot be printed easily. Take note of the difference between those links. See how the second one lists the web pages for the web-links on the page. Things that you can click on in a webpage are not standard text, that is just one reason why webpages are hard to print.

Hey Guys: When I opened up the PDF file, then I could click on the printer icon in the top left corner and it will print. Also using the suggestion to highlight, right-click and select copy worked also. However I don't understand why suddenly I cannot print from the printer icon or from the file toolbar. After only 3 weeks these options are not available! Terry

Just had the same problem with an HP wireless printer and Toshiba laptop. I deleated the printer and reinstalled it on the laptop and it is working now. Worth a try.

Also, when printing from the browser, verify the correct printer is selected, the browser print dialog may be set to "print to file ".
