As per the title, I am about to install it now, it is version 1.8.8:

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/

Edit: I always uninstall a previous version before I install a new build. I then let Comodo reg cleaner clean up the uninstaller issues and, since I let this app start with Windows so it's always in my right click menu, in this case, also the start up key. I think it helps the system and recues clutter.

I also think, perhaps irrationally, it prevents Windows from running about needlessly trying to find the latest build.

Well, I DLed the file 2 times and both times Microsoft Essentials alerted me to a Trojan in the unlocker.exe and wiped it out.

I wonder if it is a false positive because I had Unlocker installed from before and never got an alert from the Superantispyware I was running then.

If anyone else can load it with MS Essentials running, I'd like to know about it.....

    Hi, Bmoore1129,

Just came in and saw this. I have no clue. I might ask where you downloaded it from?

I don't run MS Essentials. But what I just did, given I remembered having gotten it from Filehippo, was to get the installation file again. I tested it with Avira, Malwarebyes and Superantispy and it came up clean. Plus, when I got it for real none of my apps flagged it.

I can only suggest you download the installer package from more than one source and test all of them.

Here it is at Filehippo: http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/

I will be most interested to learn the results of this experiment should you follow up, and I am glad you posted.

Edit: i just read a bit re MS Essentials. Unless & until I test as per the above, I sure would not assume you got a false positive. Better safe (also paranoid) than sorry!

Jilly, I did a little more research and found the Trojan was an ebay call home. I turned off my real time protection and DLed from your link and installed but unchecked the ebay flag.

It worked and MS Essentials did not bother it from then on.

Unlocker should not put a check in the ebay option as a default.

    Wow. Outstanding!

Most free apps, to subsidize themselves, hook up with such things and we must be vigilant to notice & remove those little check marks!!!

All's well that ends well! (Thumbs Up, Hi five or fist bump Smilie.)
