    hi,

We come to learn that when we get good freewares....I do always donate cause I think it is only fair....one way the architects of those subsidize their endeavors, is to hook up with such as search engines and toolbars, etc.

Even including CCleaner, and when it tells me there is a new build and I install it, I am always careful to say no thanks to the Yahoo thingy.....I don't feel guilty, again, cause I sent him money way back.

I recently got and tested some freeware, can't even remember which, another junk file cleaner, I think...with similar option to install the Ask Toolbar during installation. I demured on this, and yet it installed anyhow. I was so put off by just this, I uninstalled the app & ran 3 reg cleaners.

But...given the sneaky of this--- trust is earned--I then ran a HJT scan....and,. as I kinda expected, there it WAS, the Ask Toolbar BHO! Sneaky monkey.

I asked HJT to kill it and it did.. Only we have the right to decide if our browsers need help or not, OK?

So, please be careful during installation of all apps. I get people need to eat, generous people who write these things deserve compensation, but writing something with integrity which gives us real choices and not the illusion of same....is the issue.

    Keep it Real.

But, Broni, I DID! When it asked me re the Ask Toolbar, I SAID, no thank you.....and it installed anyhow.

That was the issue of the Sneaky Monkey.

Plus, this app was too small to offer installation options re full, custom, etc. It had one apparent option and that was sham.

Thanks for the link, Broni, and Merry!:D

Edit: Wow! That is some impressive list! And yes, you even included CCleaner and the Yahoo thing! But when HE gives us the option re each new build, it is a real OPTION.

One more, cause in yr list, Broni, I see Iobit.

Way back, I discovered their original app, Advanced Windows Cleaner. I liked it a lot, felt it was exceptional and I wrote them. I and the guys in China, Hugo especially, became “friends.”

They then asked me to be a tester on their various builds. I was thrilled and flattered. They even installed one of my custom Jillypapers on all their test system desktops---lots of icons in Chinese, and sent me a screenie. One Xmas, Hugo even made a talking, animated panda video for me, where the panda says We Luv U Jilly.

    It was deep.

Over time, they metamorphosed from sharp, integrity driven software writers…..to more and more sleazoid, commercial, sneaky, and greedy.

It made me very, very, VERY sad. I no longer have anything Iobit, stopped answering his mails, and went into my registry and dug out and killed a remaining key my regcleaners did not find…..I just sensed was lurking there.

Is it a hugely, increasingly competitive playing field? You bet. But that never justifies becoming Faust.

    Iobit did even worse things.
Apparently, it was stealing Malwarebytes malware definitions, applying them to their own products.

OMG, BRONI!!!!!! Truly? I saw where they were going, but i never thought they would sink THAT LOW!!!!

I now think I should delete that awesome talking panda video Hugo made for me.....it was so amazing, it made me cry. But that was before they sold their souls to the Antichrist.

And Hugo made a point of teliing me he was committed to freeware for the disenfranchised because he is a Buddhist.

    I am sometimes soooo gullible.:(

We know this will sound hard to believe, because it was hard for us to believe at first too. But after an indepth investigation, we became convinced it was true.

This indicates to me, that even within the reprehensible parameters of The End Justifies the Means, Gordon Gekko ignobility in business.....this lowered the bar to the bedrock.

I am so warmed by the fact that the Malwarebytes People---I only recently discovered their fabulous app and i liked it a lot and bought it....that THEY, found this BEYOND. Speaks volumes about them!

    Hi Guys,
excuse me for butting in; but when I saw the reference to IObit and saw whar malawares had to say, it alarmed me because I have a programme from them called Game Booster which shuts off non-essentialprogrammes while playing games.
    Should I be alarmed?

    Hey.

No cause for alarm...their software isn't dangerous; it's their total dearth of integrity in evolving their software that's the issue....and that they are, it was just confirmed to me by Broni... opportunists and thieves and so, sleazoids.

Of course, read the history of Microsoft. Glass houses pervade, yes? Re the throwing of the stones, I mean.

There is no danger coming from Iobit products. We're talking about ethical and legal issues here.

I ditto Broni and now I feel bad that without ever meaning to, in some way I have fostered the wrong kind of paranoid in anyone.

Plus, cause nobody told me I shouldn't, I had nobody to tell me anything, when I found HJT, I kinda taught myself to use it in my own inadequate way, and nothing bad happened.

Nobody NOT TRAINED AND actually qualified... nobody NOT SOMEONE LIKE Broni, SHOULD EVER DO THAT.

I am sure you are fine, please chill and have a faublous holiday!!
