IPS is BACK! But on a Mac? Is there a monitor with IPS?

    Hey folks,

The new iMac is out! Well, the fact that I would utter excitement at that is pretty unusual, as I am a ThinkPad and Windows guy. I have owned 12 ThinkPad's in now over 10 years! And the higher-end Thinkpads used to have the greatest screens! Amazing mindbogglingly beautiful display called IPS Flexview LCD's which were one significant part of why I love the Thinkpad brand. But they stopped that practice under Lenovo and now, all they have is TN screens.

Enter this new iMac. I thought IPS was dead in the water until I happened upon this beautiful new iMac, which not only has IPS, but LED technology on top of it! So here's my question. I am not a big fan of Mac OS X, although I do use it from time to time on my ThinkPad W700, which has a really nice and superbly bright LCD as well, but nothing like IPS.

Actually, I have two questions: Being that the hardware is largely the same (Intel Core 2 Duo/i5/i7) and either ATI or NVIDIA graphics, how much of a performance gap is there running Windows 7 on the Mac using Boot Camp? I really want this screen. However, the entire system board, drives, and ports are all integrated in the iMac's unique design, so there's no way to just buy the screen (monitor?), is there? I do need to run multiple apps that will NOT run on Mac OS X, so Windows 7 is very important.

Alternatively, is there a way to JUST buy a monitor? And if that option is not available, which stand-alone monitor comes closest to the quality of the iMac? Are there any monitors that do have IPS outside of the screen of the iMac?

Check it out, and thanks for any suggestions.

I actually read something today. Dell have one, but at almost 3 times the price of a low-end priced monitor.
