I have a friend in Texas who I assist with his computer problems and he recently updated from Vista to Windows 7 on a Toshiba Laptop which already had TB 2.0.0.23 and had FF 3.5.3 installed.

Something is going on with the memory because if FF is loaded and you try to load TB it tells you TB is already running and if you have TB loaded and try to Load FF it tells you FF is already running.

I un-installed FF 3.5.5 and installed FF 3.5.5 and that didn't fix anything. I would have installed a newer version of TB but, I understand TB now has something called TABS and other problems so, I didn't want to compound his troubles.

Bottom Line, if either is loaded you can not load the other.

This showed up right after he had some Add-On program pop up and he clicked on YES with out thinking and allowed it to install. The problem is he got in a hurry and doesn't now know the Add-On name or where it went.

I will try to remove all his FF Add Ons if some one can tell me how or perhaps others know of this memory problem and can tell us how to fix that.

    Thanks, Ray

Here we have another case of Windows7, perhaps, being the culprit.
I have never seen anything like it in XP. Whatever is the equivalent of the Task Manager|processes should be looked at. Are both thunderbird.exe, and firefox.exe listed? One or both can be deleted.
Any clue about which addon? As for addons, go to Tools|addons and highlight the suspect. Some addon does not have an uninstall button, but all of them have a disable/enable button. After restarting each program, things should be back to normal.

Westside, The Task Manager in Windows 7 is about like the one in XP and it only shows one program is loaded i.e. FF or TB and it is which ever one you load first because the 2nd one you try to load thinks it itself is already loaded.

I am going to have to get back with him on the ADD On deletions we ran out of energy around midnight last night. I run his computer in Texas from mine in Florida using LogMeIn and it is kind of slow going some times.

But, I will look into your suggestion when he and I can get back together.

    Thanks Ray,

Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode).
    Then, try to start TB.

    Thanks, Broni

We tried the Safe Mode as you suggested. It didn't change anything the problem remains.

Interestingly enough he had neither FF or TB listed in All Programs and I did a normal install just last night on FF which put an Icon on the desktop and I been using that. I may of made one error I kept using the old Desktop Icon and deleted the new one but, I wouldn't think that would also delete what should have been in All Programs.

I had to insert -safe-mode as a command line parameter to get FF in Safe Mode.

    Thanks, Ray

Did you actually check Task Manager to see, if the other service is running?

Try with TB. But, a clean install makes more sense than anything else. In such case, begin with Firefox.
